I’ll try to make it short , downloaded & interrupted an activeX which resulted in a black screen whenever I playback a video ( WMPlayer10, Nero 8 , Quicktime , Divex NOTHING WORK) (audio is fine ) , I tried the following (NONE worked ) : • Rolling back wm11 to 10 & Reinstalling wm player 11 • Installed & Uninstalled  XP_Codec_Pack_2.4.1 , Nimo50Build8 , Codecs6030_allin1 , klite codec417 • Scanned registry using Mechanics • Ran Gspot and sherlock2.0 didn’t show any missing or corrupt codecs (UNLESS I dono how to use it ) • Uninstalled codecs from Device manager  sound , video& Game controllers video codecs  properties (removed one by one ) other things noticed : • Video played back just fine when booted from my other HD (vista) • prompted when downloading codec pack to delete a broken registry which I did • the only time I am able to playback video is when running VLC media player (choosing Direct X or Open GLwithout hardware acceleration ) SYSTEM : Win XP SP3, 6GB RAM , VisionTek Radeon X1550 BIG thank you REPLY for first POST to solve It
XP or Vista ? Use the built-in system restore to revert your system to a time before the problem occurred. This will put back the files and registry as they were then.
thank you EVERYONE system restore didnt fix it BUT 3 button clicks on this stupid CATALYST video control panel on my computer saved me another 20 hours of hassle with this I GUESS NO ONE knows it all
hey, what are the 3 clicks you did, i have the same prob and i have catalyst, please help me as i have to open one vid, then pause it, then open another one so it uses another codec or something
