yea the 7200 series are availiable now so no wait there.
just what is the so called label flash? does it work the same way as lightscribe? do they use the same type disc????

i got about a week to make up my mind which to get. the pioneer 215dbk or the optairc 7200.

does the optairc suport nero cd/dvd scan? and do they bitset???
if/when i get my rebate from CM. if its this week im most likely get them 200 8x-r ty's from SMS $54 shipped.

its funny since ive been messing with my new build(guess i can call it my old build now)i havent been doing that much burning..

Labelflash uses a different type of disc than lightscribe and I haven't seen any available in my local B&M stores. They look better than LS IMHO, but I really don't want to bother with them right now.

    http://labelflash.jp/

One big reason for me wanting one of these drives is to get back into Liggy and Dee firmware and support...yes bitsetting is available and they are supported in CD Speed.

    http://liggydee.cdfreaks.com/page/en/Optiarc-AD-7200A/

According to L&D they are on par with Litey's for scanning too. I can't tell you not to get the 215D as it's an awesome drive, but it is noisy and slightly slower than my 203B when overspeeding 16X media. I don't think you would be disappointed with either drive Rob and if you have room for two you might get one now and the other later. I personally like a variety instead of just one brand/make/model etc.

Sorry Toxy, I didn't see your post at the end of the page there. Liggy and Dee are on top of the modified firmware for the new NEC drives. See link above.

I used modified firmware on my old NEC 3540a as soon as I took it out of the box and L&D are constantly updating and developing firmware for the NEC drives. I trust them just as much as codeguys for Lite-On etc. My last drive will probably be a Lite-On and I guess it will be a LS drive too a. because they are good scanners and b. I don't have an LS drive in this rig.

You should be able to simply remove it from your favorites or just type /j #afterdawn and mark it as a favorite. I don't know what client you are using though and they are all slightly different.

I have no idea as I don't use them...I might have one laying around though, maybe I'll try one out.

Leaving work now, stop by best buy for Verbs, get haircut and stop by Lowes and I'll be on in about an hour and a half if you are still around.

Well it seems that VideoHelp was initially wrong with their assesment of the 7201 series drive from Sony/Optiarc/NEC!!!!! According to a VERY reliable source and NOW VideoHelp the AD-7201 drive is indeed NEC chipset and therefore something we (ODD freaks) might want to invest in... good drive hunting...

Zo check that post out by LOCO.. ;) I've been doing some reading on the 7200 series drive and it seems they are pretty good ODD's and I'm thinking about getting one too. lol. I know.. too many already but hey... ;P

How many burns do you have on that 20A1S?? If Lite-On's are gonna "go south" that easily or quickly (guessing you don't have that many burns or scans) then I'm very disappointed. I guess we'll see what some of these new drives bring...

oh maybe a 1000 burns or so. and at least double that for ripping/transcoding DVD/CDs thats where it seems to be going south on me the most.

looks like the Sonys with the NEC chipset would be a good drive the Plextor PX-810SA drives i have are Pioneer drives with an NEC chipset.and there still going strong after 1000 plus burns. I bet the Sonys don't booktype or support nero quality scans? but i use the DVD dash R format anyway except for the occasional Verbatim DVD+R DL

the Sonys at 45.00 you would expect them to be pretty good optical drives.

edit i don't need lightscribe so the Sony-NEC Optiarc AD-7200S would work fine . greensman help fine me the best deal you can and i will order one. i want the black face plate

as LOCO pointed out there is a firmwaare update that will let ya Bitset and such. from what ive found nero does suport this drive so it should be able t odo QC scans....i dont know if it will be as good as the litey's scanning, but you know how much a fanboy i am of the litey's..lol

I ordered mine yesterday morning before they added the free shipping...I'll call them today and get the shipping refunded. So by the end of the week I should have a new 7200S and a new 20A1L...oops, didn't tell ya 'bout that one. :) I figured as much as I've resisted getting a Litey I'd better go ahead and snatch one up.

@Zo, the Sammy will scan but you have to remove it from the registry as a blocked device...

That is for Vista, but XP is similar but if you need more help finding it lemme know.

7200S and 20A1L installed and running. Made a couple of burns and this 20A1L is the loudest drive I've ever heard...sounds like my PC is prepared for take-off.
