Can someone tell me or lead me to a list of protections that Blindwrite 5 can overcome. I'm considering buying a copy. I like to create images of games and use them with damon tools.
The game I'd like to image has a protection of Securom 4.78xx.

Blindwrite 5 can overcome Securom 4.78xx, with topology enhancements and BWT Tweaker.

You Must Have The Original Disk.

AND MORE importantly, it is very BURNER dependant, Not all drives can make a true 1:1 Copy and Emulation may still be required.

    Google around chack out:

@ NIZANTHOR, and What is your problem with the lovely FRENCH people??

I my experience BlindWrite5 is the best duplicating app to be had and was some of the best money I've ever spent. I've used it to make flawless copies of SecuROM up to 5.03 and SafeDisc up to 3.20. For SafeDisc 3.20.022 BlindWrite 4.57 kicked out a better copy than A120 could using my Plextor Premium.

If you get BlindWrite5 (and I say go for it) you'll definitely want to get BlindWrite5 Tweaker which is a small companion app that let's you fine tune all your settings especially when using a Plex Premium.

    Bullcrap. VSO has excellent support.

Oh, by the way the French make some damned fine software. VSO's BlindWrite, CopyToDVD and DivxToDVD are all stellar performers and Prassi's ONES is the most phenomenal burning app I've ever used. Talk about an ignorant remark.

Hmmm, that's odd. Try going to Options, Settings, then click the Writing Devices tab. There should be an option to cap the speeds of both CD's and DVDs so pick what speed you want the DVDs capped at and see if that doesn't help :)

    hi to all,
ive been reading the threads over the last few days concerning pc backups and the helpful advice from nephilim in particular.
i do have blindwrite 5.2.23.156 with bw5tweaker software & ive already tried to make a backup copy of my original pc game using clonecd 5.2.6.1.
i have also had alcohol120% in the past but that hasn't produced a working backup so far either so i no longer have this on my machine.
blindwrite hasnt worked-apparently it copied the original but fails to load at all. at least clonecd copied & the copy installs like an original but then doesn't get any further than the intro and comes up with an error message like please eject and re-insert the cd-rom,select ok and restart application.
    of course, nothing happens !!!!!!!!!

i have, at various stages, used an hitachi-lg dvd-rom gdr8162b, nec nd1100a with flash upgrade, lite-on ltr 483275 pts1 & sony crx220e1 6ys1 hardware (yep, ive been successfully backing up dvd's for years now).i normally use imation or verbatim discs and these have never proven to be a problem
the game i'm trying to backup is harry potter and the prisoner of azkaban, which ive indentified as having safedisc 2/3 according to a-ray scanner.
i kind of dropped out of pc games for a while and am now getting addicted again and at the extornionate prices that are charging for new games, i would like to have my originals scratch free for many years hance the need for a backup.

so, if any of you kindly folk would like to instruct/direct me accordingly-no rude ones please-as to how to make a working copy of an original, i would be most grateful.

this is driving me mad !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi benjy100 and welcome to AfterDawn :)

Did A-Ray list the exact version number of SafeDisc that your game uses?

Are you playing your copies in a ROM? ROMs work best.

Are you installing the game from the originals? It's a good idea to do so.

Many games will detect CloneCD so if you don't need it then I recommend uninstalling it. In my experience every time I've installed various versions of CloneCD my games refused to run. Once CloneCD is uninstalled everything went back to normal.

One problem I see may be that none of your burners are up to the task of reproducing the newer protections accurately enough. I'm not sure of the LiteOn though - it may be EFM capable but I can't find it on any of the lists I know of.

What settings did you use with BW5 Tweaker?

Get back with us and we'll see what we can do :)

thankyou very much nephilim for your reply.

    your points in question;

i'm afraid on this particular game, a-ray only says safedisc 2/3 (on others it has said safedisc 2.90.040 for example)

yes, i'm playing the copy in a dvd rom drive

yes the originals are installed first

i've uninstalled clonecd and yes i did notice that it was preventing the copy from running originally-it said remove/disable virtual drive and re-start. i did, but thats when i got up to the intro screen as per my original posting

as for bw5 tweaker, i re-set to enhance weak sectors if any,max read speed 2x,max write cd speed 2x in basic settings and left as automatic and extraction speed 8x in the topology section.

as far as the burners go, i'm not off to an auspicious start there am i !!!!!!!!!! i will try a read and burn on the lite-on ltr 483275 again and also another try with the hitachi-lg dvd rom as the reader and the lite-on as the burner. if no go with those combinations, any suggestions/recommendations for a cd burner that will cut the mustard and do the job in question will be greatly appreciated.

any suggestions on the settings for blindwrite too ?

    best wishes

Ok, here's a pic of what settings you need for Tweaker,

For 'Writing Topology' under the Topology tab can choose either Automatic or Do Not Write Topology'. I choose the latter because Topology extraction in only needed for SecuROM protected games.

As for burners there is none better than the Plextor Premuim. It's an absolute beast when it comes to writing protections and it also has a proprietary writing method for SecuROM that works like a dream and can be utilized through BW5 Tweaker. Sadly, I believe Plextor isn't making them anymore but you should be able to google for the Premium and find some still in stock at various etailers.

thanks again nephilim for your help and assistance.

i tried using blindwrite with the following combinations of read/write on the lite-on and read with the hitachi-lg and write with the lite-on but still no luck.

i shall purchase the plextor plexwrite premium as per your advice (just seen 6 for sale @ $60 each brand new) and will advise the results accordingly in about 3 or 4 days time after it arrives in the post.

fingers crossed (and any other bits that can be crossed too !!!)

best wishes and an early merry chrsitmas to all

    hello again,

well, my shiney new plextor premium arrived today.

fully installed and secured in it's new home, i proceeded to try to make my backup copy of harry potter and the prisoner of azkaban pc game.

i used the plextor as the read and the write on this occasion coupled with blindwrite and the tweaker as per the previous postings.

unfortunately, i still haven't managed to make a working backup yet: is this one of those pc games that is impossible to backup, i wonder ??

any help regarding settings etc etc would be very gratefully appreciated

I think I know why. Your game uses SafeDisc 3.20.20 which BW5 has trouble with. What we need for that version of SafeDisc is BlindWrite 4.57 which is an oldie but goodie.

Go ahead and grab 4.57 off VSO's site and I'll work up some screenshots to post for you :)

hello and thanks for your reply.

well, ive got my copy of blindwrite 4.5.7 and i thought i'd give it a go and see what happens.

i saved the original to my hard drive then sent the image back to a blank cd.all reads and writes were done at 4x.none of the original settings were changed and i even authenticated the image prior to the burn, to make sure that that was ok too.

    unfortunately, still no luck !!!!!!!!

i shall eagerly look forward to seeing if any screenshots you post differ to mine, but this game is looking a tad sneaky and seems determined to beat every attempt i try at making a working backup !!!!!!!

I've been down with a cold so no screenshots yet but going off memory,

For the Read settings check 'Authorize the use of alternative read method' then click next.

Now choose 'Nibble' as your extraction method and set the max speed at 4x.

Write settings should be as follows,

On the main page go to Configuration where you want to uncheck 'Autoplay support'. Now click next and you should get kicked back to the main page.

Now run the wizard where you'll want to make sure you select 'DAO PQ' as your writing method. Write at 4X :)

    many thanks for your reply.

sorry to hear about the cold, nasty little things !!!!

i tried using the settings you quoted, but alas, it's still a no go i'm afraid.

i tried doing two copies, one with a bwa file included and one without. none of those worked either.

the only thing i have done so far was download a patch from gameburnworld which allows the original loaded on the hard drive to run without the original disc being inserted at the same time.

obviously not an ideal solution, especially after having forked out for a new plextor too !!!!

it's hard to pinpoint if and where the problem lies regarding the backup on cd though. i may be missing or not doing something glaringly obvious, but for the life of me i cannot see what !!!!

i was starting to think that perhaps blindwrite isn't up to the job as far as backing up this game goes too, perhaps i should try another, so any recommendations are gratefully received.

sorry to be a pain but this is starting to become a quest and a challenge for me now !!!

How do you burn ps2 games with blindwrite

Blindwrite 4 and 5 are very useful when backing up SecuROM 4/5 protection. The problem here lately is that many games are now in DVD format and a dvd burner cannot write in RAO DAO mode. It's worth the money if you backup pc games that are not DVD version. If you wan't a good all around dvd burner to backup many cd protections then grab a Plextor PX-712/716 model.
