I'm having a bizarre video problem on my XP machine with a nvidia 6800GT. Most video playback (xvid, mpeg2, divx, etc.) appear jagged and blocky, particularly along edges. This occurs in all the software i've tried (Media player classic, zoom player, powerdvd and VLC). This problem didn't occur until 2 days ago when i was testing out playing H264 videos on my CRT HDTV. The TV was setup as a second monitor in Dualview mode and connected to the pc via a hdmi/DVI cable. I was trying to adjust the overscan of the tv when the nvidia display driver gave an error. I figure either the drivers were old or something got deleted when i uninstalled powerstrip a few weeks back, so i updated the drivers to the latest and then was able to set the resolution. I played a H264 movie in MPC-HC, everything looked great, no tearing. Next day, I adjusted the overscan some more and that's when i noticed tearing when there weren't any before while playing the same H264 file. Direct3D fullscreen mode was chosen in MPC-HC, vmr9 renderless, coreavc and vsync is set to force on in the vid card. I thought maybe tweaking with the resolution of the tv might have thrown something off, so i tried to get back to that original resolution but nothing worked. ugh. Anyway, thinking that that was the only problem i had, i launched an xvid file in zoom player and an error message shows up saying something like "Reclock does not support the video hardware or driver of this machine". The audio in the xvid played fine but no video. ffdshow did not load up either. So, i wound uninstalling ReClock and reinstalling ffdshow, but everything looks jaggie. I've uninstalled and reinstalled every codec i can think of. I don't use codec packs like k-lite. I've reinstalled DirectX9 and the old nvidia display drivers. This is driving me nuts and i don't really want to reinstall the system. Some other odd behaviors/clues: 1. WMV files play in zoom player in their original size on the bottom left hand within the window, but play full screen in MPC with jaggies. 2. H264 files play with no jaggies. In fact it's the only file format so far that plays without jaggies. 3. The tv is on the 1st floor, the pc is on the 2nd. They are connected via a 35ft hdmi/dvi cable. I was using VNC on a laptop to make overscan adjustments. The pc frozed twice and required a force restart. 4. Playing an xvid file in Zoom Player lists these filters: VideoRenderer, Default Direct Sound Device, Xvid MPEG-4 Video Decoder, Zoom Player Audio Filter, ffdshow Audio Decoder, AVI Splitter, Source File 5. Playing an WMV file in MPC lists these filters: Video Renderer, NVidia nForce Audio, WMVideo Decoder DMO, Audio Switcher, WMAudio Decoder DMO Something got screwed up after the tv hooked up with the pc, maybe the registry, maybe the drivers, maybe the crash during the vnc session. any help would be appreciated.
