Ok I was actually looking for a good DVD+_DL burner when I noticed there was one for $1269.99 CAD...so I'm like WTF! I check it out, the HIGH price is due to its capability of burning Blu-Ray disks! Now I read the description and it only states it can write single layer BD-Roms so if I make an ass of myself for thinking that it can burn BD-roms then err... sorry. I seem to remember that $ony actually chose this media format as they wanted something that couldn't be duplicated like the dvds for the ps2....well there goes that idea out the window LoL! So copying the games can be possible, making them work till take a miracle as I bet $ony took time with their security on the PS3.

Oh ya I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post this link but I will of the burner because I think the more people that know about it the better. Sorry if its agianst the rule, just edit it out then =P

I have a question, it's prob really stupid, but will the ps3 be able to play burned Blu Ray movies? as if I were to record a home video on my HD Camcorder, put it on my computer, then burn it to blue ray, will the PS3 play it?

xxsaijin :Buddy I hate to be the one to tell ya, but the games arn't going to be in blu-ray format. That's for movies. That link you posted is fine it's actually good you did because now everyone can see how much they are.

mfrink :Well nobody can say for sure as there are no blu-ray burning software solutions yet.I will say yes. There will be blu-ray-r's and there will be burning software too.Sony is burning them so their burnable. As far as camcorder yes it will do that too.

You got the Burner but it dont do you any good if you dont have a program to crack the Games or movies.

im 100% possitive that the ps3 will use bluray for every single game, primarily to cut off piracy and also to promote the new format.

LOL.Sony has not said anything about games being blu-ray(go ahead and provide a link big shot).Movies in hi-def will be on brd. However games don't take up nearly as much space(on the disc). That's why they won't be on blu-ray.Maybe later, games like in 2010 will be ,but not in the near future.

br is expensive to develope on right now as a format but like I said in the future maybe it will change.Just like pc games people wonder why we get games that are on 5 cd's rather than 1 dvd. It's cause the dvd's are more expensive from a global standpoint than cd's which have less space.

And please don't give me that crap about "we don't all have dvd drives yet" yeah Then if your pc is that old, you wouldn't be playing the lastest games anyways.Stupid.

its all good man, if i had the money and this drive can genuinely burn BD-R then i would get it before sony release fully DRM crippled drives that would probably have some sort of extra protection to stop ps3 games from being copied.

Ps3 will be cracked right here on afterdawn.com.The xbox 360 has already been and it's getting easier and easier.

Yeah it can't burn, but hey there will be software solution's for that.Hopefully unless sony puts copy protection on that lol.

@andrew691 - thats exactly what i was saying. i couldnt find the article tho.

is there an hd-dvd burner or even drive for pc yet? i think thats why sony rushed to have the burner out fast is so the hd-dvd croud would not be so able to reach their fingers in.

LoL... Well I'm glad I got this out in the open. I personally think the firmware on the burner will prevent any mishaps for ripping ps3 games... I just have a feeling. Can't wait till they crack ps3, until then I wont be buying it, gonna shoot for the psp wanna play ff7 crisis core.

not really? the bluray base issnt even in full swing yet. it has larger capacity, and in time it will be loadered in price. the disk is $25 usd and its 25 gigs. a 25 gig hdd would be about $35-40. its pretty efficient for backing up and storing things in need of large space that wont need to be put on the hd.

    TruthMan is telling the truth.
I can get a 250 GIG Internal HD for about $90 and a 250 Gig External for about $120 - Western Digital drives at Sam's Club. You don't really see 25 Gig HD's anymore. Most commercially available HD's are at least 80-100 Gig or more.

Blu Ray - $25/disc - $1.00 per Gig not to mention the price of the drive/burner
External HD - $0.48 per Gig
Internal HD - $0.40 per Gig

I do my archiving and backups with external drives.

dblbogey7 :Yeah but blu-ray is a new format and like all new technologies it's going to come down in price.Your all pricing a format before it even releases.

hd-dvd, blu-ray's big up coming rival will be cheaper but not that cheap. So you could use that same analogy on it.

At the same time I know not everyone will want either right away .And many just want a game machine but I feel if they win the format war it will become the new standard. The fact that ps3 will be in million's of homes gives b-r an edge over hd-dvd.Not to mention sony pictures.

When Blu-ray comes down in price a 500Gig hard drive will probably cost less than 100 bucks.
