hi i do alot of movies and i want to know what would blu ray do for me, what does it offer over standard dvd's? the only reason i ask is im doing a new computer build and i was thinking about getting a blu ray wrighter with the new machine,
kind of hard to answer, but I would say this: Build your computer to match your entertainment setup. If you have a 19 in TV with stereo speakers, then blu-ray HD would not mean very much, on the other hand, if you have a 73in HD 1080p theater system with surround sound then blu-ray might be just what you need. I can tell you this; I have been happy with just a very-good DVD upscaler. I have HD, and really, to my eyes, a DVD upscaled, looks (almost) as good as HD.
I would use bluray only in a home theater setting right now. MAYBE I would purchase a bluray burner, but I wouldn't get any media, not would I do any bluray burning right now because I think the media is just to expensive. If/when it comes down in price, it will be well worth it though.
