Without going into a lot of unnecessary detail, I'll first explain how the problem began; just in case any of the details I find as trivial someone else may find necessary.

I unhooked my newer PC and had been using an older desktop for the past week to make sure everything on it worked alright. It was an older PC that I was going to sell to a friend. Well, after seeing that everything ran fine on the older desktop PC, I then unhooked everything and reconnected my original one. (The newer one.)However, when I got my PC hooked up it wouldn't boot up.

Just so you understand me: The desktop PC that I had been using prior to connecting the older PC is now not working.

When I hooked it up the first time, it booted up as normal; however when it wanted the user password, the keyboard wasn't working so I couldn't type it in. I figured I just had a loose connection or had inadvertently put the wire in the wrong hole. But no matter what I did the keyboard wouldn't type. I figured a hard reboot would get the PC to recognize the keyboard; however after the reboot, nothing worked at all.

Several attempts to get into safe mode have been unsuccessful. To make matters more complicated, I'm not sure if the PC is recognizing the keyboard. All I'm getting is a screen showing the blue HP invent background with the common three options in the bottom right hand corner. They are -- esc = Boot Menu - F10 = System Setup - F11 = System Recovery

My PC is an HP slimline - OS = Vitsa : At times the monitor will show the PC trying to load the next page as the screen turns black and you see the gray hyphen in the upper left corner familiar with all Windows boots. However, it gets hung up and then you have to reboot it again; then it gets stuck on the blue screen.

If anyone has any suggestions, they are appreciated as always. Thanks a lot!

big hardware failure.. keyboard first.. now other stuff..

I have a procedure for these.. first I unplug everything except keyboard mouse and monitor.. like.. all addin cards.. any usb devices .. hard drives.. cd drives.. the lot.. and fire it up

beep? .. if not i pull one stick of ram..

beep??.. if not the other stick so there is none left..

that should cause all hell to break loose.. and tells you the system is making a good attempt at starting.. then plug one bit back at a time.. a stick of ram.. see if the keyboard works.. the number lock light should be switchable.. if it works try to get into the bios.. if not see below..

this sounds like a stick of ram has gone funky.. faults can be very strange when a stick that claims to be 512 decides instead to say 512 but only 32 is working.. hehehehe

if all that fails.. try a different power supply.. you may have a rail missing.. if it's still no go.. then likely there is a motherboard fault.. hard to diagnose from a distance.. hands on it's quite easy to work out.. booting from a cd may cure everything.. (puppy linux.. runs everything) because it might be just that junk fista has decided to commit suicide as it does very regularly..
