This error comes up on my computer, i am able to start up the computer, and iget on to the desktop but then this error comes up.

It's a blue screen which comes up with the error, i am told to turn off my computer otherwise damage may be caused.

    DRIVER-IRQL-NOT-LESS-OR-EQUAL

Previous to this error i installed the java virtual machine update for my computer, i researched this error and think it's somethiong to do with a driver.

I turned the computer off at the mains and then the error came up.

Thanks for any help in advance.

ok thats good so its not hardware problem its more of a bad driver issue so go to device manager and c if there r any ? in there or just start re-installing the drivers via safe-mode start with the video card driver that can most likely b the one causing issues

I tryed uninstalling some drivers in safe mode, then reinstalling them. The error still persists. Is there anyway to retrieve my files from within safe. Files such as music, pictures e.t.c. I have 2 hard disks, one with the OS that wont start properly because of the error and another with another installation of windows.

On the error screen there is an error code with iastor.sys in front of it. I have done some research, and i believe that this is a WINDOWS SYSTEM32 driver file, is there anyway to replace it ? I think if i replace it windows will start normally again, but i would to back up my files first.

    thanks for your help

I've managed to recover my files, so i am just going to format the hdd with the error and reinstall windows.

I was unable to identify the faulty driver, thanks for your help.
