I was going merrily along doing my web browsing when I received the BSOD with an error message :"kernel stck inpage error." The computer shut down and restarted itself but would not boot. I get the mobo boot screen but instead of the windows boot screen (using WinXP Pro), I get a message to insert a boot disk and press any key. It seems that my hard drive is not being recognized. Any help on this one?

It doesn't seem to see the HD, which is the main problem. I'm not a BIOS expert, but I don't find it listed among the boot devices - only see my DVD and CDRW drives. Is there a way to restore the HD to the BIOS (without losing its contents)?

if the bios does not see the hd usually means it is scrap. open the computer, reseat the data cable both on the drive & motherboard. if have spare power connector for the drive try that. before doing this listen to if can hear the drive & do again after doing the cables. figure the drive is scrap but if not than might be on it's way so get a new hd so can copy info off it if you hadn't saved it before.

I was afraid of that. I don't have a spare power cable, but I replaced the data cable and nothing. I can't hear the drive, so I guess its a goner. Thanks.
