Ok, last night, I noticed my pc shut down by it's self, the screen showed update in progress 1 of 8 or something similar to that and it finished the update and rebooted to my log in screen on winxp home. So, logged in as usual, but it would start rebooting about every 60 seconds. So I turned off the reboot, that's when I would get the stop error of 0x0000008e (0xc0000005,0xaa7f08b7,0xa807aa20,0x00000000) from what I have read there are a number of reasons why, so I started in the normal places, I have 2 256mb sdram sticks, took one out reboot, same failure and vise versa so to my conclusion either both sticks are still good, or both bad??? I do have "ram ide le" and I ran it, it does recognize the 512mb of memory, but says free memory is around 160mb, this being with zone lab and avgfree running idle in the task bar, and of coarse all the other junk running in the task manager. So my question is can someone please help. I cannot remain on my pc for longer than maybe 2 minutes max before the blue screen comes up, I am writing this on my laptop as the pc is pretty usless right now. any help would be greatly appreciated....

    Thank you
    Adam

I once had a problem very simular to what you describe only not as bad, mine would run approx 30 mins before blue screen. All anaylisis pointed to bad memory. I ran full diag on mem sticks and all test indicated mem OK. I started going back thru error logs and discovered that it all started with a new (PVR)PCI card I had installed.
Now here's the interesting part... I wasn't satisfied with the performance of that card and I had ditched it months earlier.... uninstalled all related software and drivers, but apparently it left something behind that my system didn't care for. I had exhausted all other options and decided that reinstalling my OS was the last resort..... now, this same computer with all the same hardware is running flawlessly.
