I recently replaced the DVD-ROM drive in my PC with this Sony model burner. Previous experience has been with -Format media only. I want to set the Booktype on +Format to DVD-ROM when I use this Sony. I read an AD review of the DRU-820a and I thought it said that this model sets the Booktype to DVD-ROM by default. I burned my first +R DVD and used DVD Info Pro to check the results. It said Booktype was DVD+R and not ROM after burning. I looked at the Booktyping tabs under Shrink, Decrypter, and ImbBurn. There are various tabs for BenQ, Lite-On, etc. There is NO tab for my Sony. DVD Info Pro has a button to set Booktype on compatible +Format drives. When I press this button to hopefully change the Booktype on my Sony, the computer locks up. It never goes anywhere to say what my settings are, does not give me a chance to change anything, and the only way out is the Reset button. Can not cancell the button once pressed. Control/Alt/Del says Not Responding and can not be stopped even from there. How can I set the Booktype on the Sony DRU-820a? Is it even possible? Should I just buy a BenQ? I do not have Nero installed if that matters. Thanks. Richard.
Hi, Take a look. If you don't have or want Nero. Just download for free CD/DVDSpeed from http://www.cdspeed2000.com/go.php3?link=download.html Run program under extras see bitsetting.
OK!! Downloaded the CD DVD Speed utility and gave it a spin. It seemed to allow me to set the Booktype to DVD-ROM. Then I ran a backup and it indeed came out set to ROM. Great. Many thanks.
