Do some CD players have problems with lower quality (CMC Magnetics) manufactured discs? CMC's quality (they make Memorex, Imation & some others) varies batch to batch sometimes variable in a spindle of discs snywhere from good to fair in quality. My 48x TDK VelowCD CDRW drive burns them fine with the Audible software (I'm burning the audio CD's at 16x) but a portable boombox at work skipped & briefly paused several times while playing a 3 disc audiobook this evening while I was at work. It played another audiobook (on Imation CMC made discs) just fine the day before without a single problem. Very strange...

The same 3 disc book (the one that troubled the boombox) played fine (no skipping or other problems) on both my truck in dash cassette/CD player plus both the CDRW drive & the DVDRW in my computer.

I tested the 3 discs with Nero's CD-DVD speed & the graph shows some dips (more than I'd normally allow) but the other 3 discs had a much better (less dips) graph. I just wonder if that boombox is sensitive to CDR's? By the way it's not mine but a shared boombox used at work. The discs in question test good up to 32x. Any faster & I get tons of errors from them.

Maybe I should buy my own radio/cassette/CD boombox to play the audio books at work on. Might not be a bad idea!
