okay i have a custom Operating system (Windows XP Ultimate "by Johnny") iso i dont have a dvd burner so i cant burn it i only have a 2 GB stick the iso is 4.3~ GB i dont have money so i cant go out and buy one i was wandering if it is possible to mount the iso and boot from it.. grub, lilo, ect.. (i need help installing these if these are required) btw normally when you launch an OS installer it starts blah blah and restart automatically.. but this one doesn't allow such thing it tells you to restart with CD in Drive.
that's because it's a cd/dvd image .. you might be able to boot from a stick and i'm sure there are guides around for that.. but from an unmounted iso.. very doubtful .. and that "custom" windozzzzze is probably riddled with keyloggers and other nasty spyware stuff. You should only install "clean" windoze.. regardless of the source.
nah... its clean ive used it for a long time. ^^ its come a long way.. but i just dont have a dvd drive in this PC. but anyways thx for your help. thread closed?
virtualbox. it's free software. You can use that to install the ISO in your computer and boot from it. If you just want to test the ISO, use mobalivecd. It will test the ISO without installing.
virtualbox runs inside another operating system jony.. it needs a "host" like solaris or something first.. that won't run from an installer iso anyway.. it will run from an imaged partition.. maybe in iso form.. but it will not run from a M$ installer disk image. why don't you just hang a spare dvd drive in the pc for the hours it takes to install the OS? .. it won't run from an iso.. you have no way to mount the image before booting.. that's the point I am making.. without an operating system to bootstrap the hardware and mount the drive filesystems theres a catch22.. which jony (scandisk man) doesn't seem to grasp at all.. Did you know.. some hardware will not boot from a dvd anyway? .. I have a few setups which will not in any way shape or form.. bios locked to only handle a iso96660 filesystem under 700mb's total size.. udf pukes it. Guess you can tell how much experience I have restoring and recycling strange hardware.. and how to boot it all from 20+ operating systems. try this.. works maybe 20% of the time http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/243423-14-image-flash
