I just picked up a 2nd hand chipped wii. How can I tell what chip it has and how up to date the firmware is? I downloaded a few games, burnt to disc and they work fine BUT when I insert the black ops disc it shows in the disc channel that it needs a. Update. The wii is currently on 4.2e and has no homebrew channel. Is it safe to run the update? I'm totally new to the modded wii scene and got really confused looking at the thread on firmwares!
Doesn't matter anymore, it hasn't for a long time now. And so long as the game is from the same region as your wii then it's safe to update.
