Hi, First time poster here, so please be gental with my obvious questions.

I took some recording from my Box PVR and transfered them to PC. These were PVR files and Mpg I think. When I rebooted the PVR, I get the 'on' displayed and the Logo, then the display shows a bar that works its way around the display, but it stops at the top left hand side and all I have is a black screen. I left it on all night and nothing. I also turned off for about an hour and also nothing when I switched back on.

Does anyone know of a way to fix this? I would not have thought that deleting files from the hard drive would affect the ROM in the Box itself, as I am sure that it would work ok without the Hard drive? The hard drive was new and has not been used too much and have had no problems with it and should be fine.

I read that I should flash the box, but have never done it and don't know how to. I don't know what to use and where to find it all.

Any one got any ideas please?

    Hi
Looks like you have moved a file (maybe the starview firmware file) from the hard drive that the Starview startup needs.
You need to reflash it. Look in the link below The Box PVR folder (the latest firmware and pvr loader) also a MUST is to read ALL the docs in the documentation folder.

    Hi JB,

Just finished updating as per instructions and download to PVR was successful, but after the reboot, exactly the same thing happen (except the green line moved one space)

I have found the original disk that I got with the PVR and it has all those files on (but older)I was wondering if I should try and reload that one, or is it not possible to undo the newest file with the old one?

If that is not possible, would it be possible to put a working file onto the hard drive directly via my pc as an external drive and then put it back into the PVR, or are the files unique to each PVR?

    Hi
Just a tip here, disconnect your hard drive, ribbon and power and see it the S/View starts ok then, if still no do a F/W install with Null Modem cable with the H/D disconnected then try it again.
Yes it is possible to load older F/W onto the box to try, you could then if same try putting the new F/W file onto the H/D drive after removing the drive from the S/View but it needs to go into a folder on there named 'Firmware' so that if the S/View then starts ok the F/W will be found and you can do a menu firmware update/Transfer from the H/D.

Ok...I disconnected the HDD and it worked fine. I reconnected and all works fine, all channels all in order as I left them :)

I have tried to update using the latest and the cable and was successful, but checking the Sys inf, it says E-Ver 4.506, 15 Oct 2007. I'm sure that this is not right. When I open PVR loader and browse for the latest and enter it, it has 3 options of App file only, Boot file only and Channel file dats. I ticked the app file, but I think that it will probably be the boot only?

What are the advantages of the new firm? faster channel changing more secure?
    cheers

    Hi
The latest firmware in dated 21/12/08 and is in the link I gave you. If you load any of the earlier firmware you won't be able to view any encrypted channels ie the latest F/W gives AU back (Auto Update)
Are you loading the F/W with Null modem cable or USB Cable & menu system?. If your encrypted channels are viewable then leave well alone as you must have the latest F/W installed and maybe the F/W writer didn't change the firmware/release version name in the 21/12/08 F/W.
BTW it is the app file you neeed to load.

    Evening

When I posted my last, I had connected the HDD and it seemd fine. I then tried the HDD button and the PVR's HDD was not found. I then noticed that it was not connected properly (Bit of a tight squeeze to get to it). I then put the HDD in correctly and got the same lock up as before, but again ok when removed.

I tried a new HDD that just had a few music tracks on to test it, it didn't work so I connected to an external enclosure and formated via right clicking the drive and formatting. I then connected to PVR and it could not find a HDD. Added firmware folder with the old dat file in (BoxPVR_E_v4500_06Jul), but that did'nt work.

Connected my PVR HDD to ext enclosure, checked firmware folder and there was no DAT file there, so I added BoxPVR_E_v4500_06Jul, (this is the one that shows on my pvr's sys info), but still nothing!

Not sure what files should be on the HDD, but here is a rundown:

    GROUP00 Microsoft Program Group 1kb

Various PVR program recorded files [PVR File]

Firmware folder [7x Ch dat files of 704kb 1x E_v4506_15Oct Dat file 1.054kb]

    MP3 Folder [Nothing]
    My Music Folder [Nothing]

Do I have anything missing from the list? and can I add the new file along side the old E_v4506_15Oct file, of should there only ever be one firmware in the folder? Once I know, I will also put all the files onto the empty spare HDD (80GB) and then sort the PVR HDD (250GB).

The reason why I still have the channels is that I have been inputting K*ys via the remote for a few months now, but AU sounds much easier.

Sorry for the long post, but trying to give as much info as poss.

Sorry, meant to say that I cannot find my HDD installation leaflet anywhere, so I cannot remember the process. I remember that it needed to be formatted and thats all.

    Hi
Slow down a bit its all getting way out of hand, I don't mind helping a little but yours is turning into an epic, just keep it basic, I understand but you going overboard and over complicating.
You can't just plug any old hard drive in and expect it to recognise and play old files dropped on from a PC or anywhere else, the drive MUST be formatted IN the PVR from the PVR's menu system FIRST, if it won't format its either a duff drive or not connected properly inside the PVR. (Ribbon Cable)You did have it working once.
To summarise, you cannot just add files onto the hard drive from a PC with the hard drive removed from the PVR, you have to use the proper USB cable connection between the PVR and PC then use the PVR-PC software menu to get a connection and do transfers, even then I don't think it will play MP3 files, the hard drive needs to be connected and working in the PVR to do this.

Hi, Sorry, my post was rather like a machine gun going off, but I wanted as much detail to be added as poss, then you had all the details ...Opps

Yea, I remember sort of that it needs to be formatted in the PVR now. I had lost the instructions and didn't really know what to do.

I'll put the new drive in the pvr and try format it, but last time it could not find a HDD connected but ill try it again.

    Cheers

    Hi
If the Starview PVR when using the menu system won't recognise a hard drive to format it (this is the ONLY way to format it), try swopping one end of the ribbon cable round and try it again, if still not, disconnect the H/D, re-install new/latest firmware using Null Modem Cable and the Loader software, re-connect drive and try again, if still same repeat all above with another H/Drive.

I decided to try and get this thing working after my last late post and noticed that the new HDD was not set to master, so after a quick scout around, I managed to find a jumper and as soon as I switched on, I got the "HDD not formated, do you want to format now?"

Everything went smoothly and my PVR is up and running 100%.

Many thanks for the help that you have given me along the way, you're a star!

    Hi
Well done, at last, naughty boy forgetting the normal procedure about setting slave or master jumper pin when fitting a hard drive.:lol
