    i have ;gtrom- super-800 709ebeta v400
i also have the aparent bin files; cryptostar v1.4-257 and 400. i got these using noelfy's link (stay classy)
i have genuin version of the box super ( 25 slits in case)

when i follow the guide and press the download button i get a long pause and the the failed message (i hate that message). i have tried a combination of the gtrom loaders with the same results. flash failed. please somebody point out how stupid ive been and piont me in the right direction.

Tallen, the crypstar v.1.4 257 is for the starview 1.
Have a look in eamos in the BOX SUPER folder for the 8.00 or the 7.09 beta. These are unified firmware, so theres no need for GTRom.

You need to go to the link marked Starview and follow the instruction, particularly on installing the drivers and assigning the correct COM port to the USB adaptor, also if you are sure that it is Starview Super, then get rid of the bin file as it is all in one loader. Starview 1 (just says Starview on left top ) Starview 2 The Box (has The Box top left) Starview 3 Super

In Noels absence, I think you have bought the wrong cable:
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=220297905550.
this is still a rs232 ...you need a Null modem cable!!

i have a ''thebox super' i'm sure thats starview 3?
i have read celtic tut (excellent work may i add)[ Updating Firmw@re SV 1/2/3
Connect your box and PC with a Null modem cable and switch on the cable box and put it on STANDBY.
(The Starvi*w does not need to be connected to TV to update it with GTROM)

Open GTROM Loader software make sure that you set the correct COM PORT that matches the one that is being used

Make sure App file only is selected, then click b1n File & browse to the firmw@re where you downloaded it to on your PC.

Run the GTROM loader by pressing Download and you will see the % progress increase then Download completed message on your PC.

Wait until you see the DOWNLOAD COMPLETE p0p up on your PC before removing the NULL MODEM CABLE.

    Tallin Ok.
you firstly need the correct cable as explained earlier the RS 232 you bought from Flea bay wont work its looks the same but the wiring is different,
and if you are trying to download from a PC using Vista again you might have an issue as theres conflict with vista and Ports etc, best bet is to get the right cables and start again, if one of your mates has a PC with XP try it on that!!!
