What's your OS? Did windows ever installed for you? If it's Win XP, then once you've connected everything and start up your system, it (windows) should automatically installed it for you.

All I could think of is that, maybe it has a bad ide cable, try other cable(s), try to disconnected, then reconnected everything back and fire up your system to see if it (windows) will recognize this time.

    Best of lucks to you.

In addition, give us the information on the drive, as well as the disks you are trying to use.

Specifics are needed for anyone to be able to help you. Without them you will only get basic or generic "remedies" to your plight.

sorry it a dynex dual layer dunno the serial, it was made in nov 05 so its prolly newest version. pretty cheap but its new so it should work. no exclamation points or problems in event viewer. ill try a new ide cable. thanks for the help.

edit: its windows xp sp2. its not the ide cable i tried another and it didnt work. also old ide worked for old drive. also i tried two types of memorex disks, a generic brand of blank disk, a few burned cds, and a few real dvds.
