    Hi.
What is the definition of a bricked drive?

Does it fail to work completely?
or does it just fail to read any discs(originals, dvds, cds) ?

I think ive made my friends hitachi drive a "brick"

a brick occurs when the person flashing has no clue of what hes doing and basically ruins the dvd drive. most often occurring when the flasher thinks he as obtained the orig.bin and erases the fw off the drive but never did actually obtain the orig.bin. so he is now left with a 400 dollar paper weight.

so if a person flashes drive with say c4evas 1.4 firmware on a hitachi drive 59 , and it goes smoothly(was and now drive both have same key, )
    no problems during flashing....

then maybe if a drive isn't working after said procedure, (open tray message)
drive isn't necesarily bricked, could be a laser problem?

    thanks for your reply earlier.

i guess it could be a laser problem, but if it didnt have this problem before, then idk, bc flashing the drive wont change the laser. that could be caused by crappy media, but if your getting the message with originals, then idk what you did wrong.

it won,t play originals , dvds anything.

ive flashed lots b4 and never had problems

i fixed it (rrod x clamp)
and then flashed it.. never checked it b4....

    gonna try swapping the laser.

im sure the flash went well as both firmware files seem ok in fw toolbox 4.6

    same key, now and was..

wish i would have checked it as soon as id fixed it...
feel as though i f****d my mates drive up...

    thanks for advice...
