so i was updating three different 360 to 1.51. 2 samsungs and one benq. using the 360 modification disc. The benq couldnt have gone smoother. First Samsung went just the same no problems. The second saumsing and last of the 3 was not reading the fw. When i got to the step that required to power off and then enter the drive number and then wait 15 seconds and power back on and reading will start. well reading would not start at all. i tried 10 or more times and it would read. I was using the 360 to power all of these units so i was doing everthing the same with each unit previously. I noticed that after i was powering the unit off and then waiting 15 seconds after about 5 or so seconds of the wait i would see the power light on the 360 blink once when the unit should be off totally. so it was kinda acting like it wasnt powering off totally like it was still charing a remote or something almost. so i decided i would unplug the power directly from the drive and it worked i unplugged and waited and then plugged it back in and it started reading and was fine. so i checked the key which was good, preped the hacked fw and went to flash. Got to the step of removing power and waiting and plugging back in to start the flash. Now here is the dumb part. Im pretty sure the cable was not upside down as i checked it, BUT as i was plugging it in i slipped and it went in crooked like one diagonal/one side in first. it started a read at 0% and froze and i smelled something and i was a sadface Drove down to the local used game shop where i know they have several rrod units but they did have a samesung drive or a benq i could buy only a hitachi and they couldnt garuntee it worked and no returns.......not my kind of gamble. so my original xenon has no drive now. luckily the benq i mentioned flashing earlier is mine also. it has a open tray problem but when i opened it to clean the lense i noticed one of the long white wires running along the side had a bad pinch in it so i think if i replace it the error will go away. the lense wasnt dirty. i have seen tons of laptops with pinched wires that were casuing major issues so i think this is the problem here as well. anyway i just wanted to vent and show it can happen to anyone. so keep your hands steady and be carefull out there.
Sorry about the brick stealth. At least you got the key though. I had a brand new Pro 360 with a Lite-ON that I bricked. Was using a shotty key reader that sparked when I went to probe the R707. It fried the drive and I hadn't obtained the key etc. That was a dark day.
I know you guys are not novices but was just wondering why not solder it the point instead of using the probes as i have heard of a few ppl shorting boards out. I even had a mate who bought a new elite £230 to then go and brick it using the probe. So my question is why not solder the points as u cant short it out then by "sparking out the probe"
takes 5 seconds to probe and a whopping 30 seconds to heat the iron(if its a good one, longer if your using radio shack)and solder. I choose the probe. Lazy I guess. Also the point to solder is so damn small. One time, at band camp.... oh wait that's from a movie. For real, one time I went to bridge 707 with a very small gauge wire, shaking a little bit from hangover, and as I removed the iron and the solder solidified my brain said let go of the wire but my fingers held on to it a bit as I moved my hand away. Guess what? Ripped the little wire and the trace clear off the pcb. That is the day I ordered the spear... and got some more budlight and McGillicuddy's. Needless to say I have been soldering for over 20 years and still made a noobie mistake on this drive.
Hey stealthdf, it happens man. I bricked my first drive the other day as well (it was my own and I had a spare luckily). I forgot it was a Hitachi 78 spoofed as a 47 and well...yeah. opps!
Well this is kinda unrelated to this thread and has nothing to do with the brive i bricked but.. i just got a ck3 pro today. Downloaded JF and the JF tut and followed it exactly as it said and i flashed my first liteon no problems at all using JF to read erase and write on the first attempts. worked pretty good
That is awesome!!! I made my own extractor and have done several lite-ons to this day. Each one makes me feel good.
