Hi. So basically I want to bridge my Xbox and my PC and I only have one LAN connection. Also I'm using a router and running Windows 7 64bit. Is it possible to do this with only one wired connection? Thanks. Oh and I have a Gigabit Ethernet card if that means anything to you.

I bookmarked that page. Do I need one of these to do it? I read somewhere that you could use a cross-over cable but then I read something else saying you don't need one if you have a Gigabit Ethernet Card. I just checked my network settings on my 360 and it's connected to the network my PC is on. Does that mean the two are bridged?
I believe you can use any router or bridge to do it with the right technical know how. You could also just get a multi port switch. I'm not expert this is just hobby knowledge really, hopefully a pro comes on to give you some definite answeres.
Is the router wireless? Is your router close enough to the 360 that you can run a wire? 1. If you are using a router and your 360 is close enough to it then you should be able to run a cable to it. There should be 4 ports on the back of the router and 1 being used by the computer. That leaves 3 extras that you can plug anything in to. 2. If you have wireless then you can use the xbox (if it's the slim) to scan for networks, if not you'd need to have the adapter for the original 360 to use wireless. I have a router and I am using Windows 7 64-bit. Doesn't make a difference really. 3. Bridging is usually for laptops (or desktops) that connect using a wireless connection. Doing so leaves the lan port open and you can plug the 360 in using the extra lan port available. Here's what to do if this is the case: It's kinda hard to hear so turn up your volume but it does what you are looking for.
As long as you have it hooked up this way Modem > Router > Computer then you can add a switch So it will be Modem > Router > Switch > Computer & Xbox A switch is a simple device which has no configuration. The router acts as a splitter and does all the ip addressing work. You might have to reset your router but it should work without any problems. Just don't use the uplink port on the switch, use the numbered ports. A crossover cable is only needed if you are connecting older devices to each other. Like if you wanted to use the uplink port on the switch you need a crossover cable. Windows 7 might actually automatically configure tx and rx lines to talk to eachother if you connect computer to computer, or computer to xbox.
Hey thanks for responding. Yes my router is wireless but I currently have it disabled because I have all wired connections. Yes it is close enough to use a wire. I watched the video and it seems simple enough. I understand the wireless set-up but to use it this way I will have to buy a wireless adapter. That's fine if I have to but I would rather do this all wired if that's possible? Does the PC need wireless capabilities built in to it because I don't think mine has that. Also my PC only has one Ethernet port in it if that matters.

What C4RN1 says is correct. Either a swithc or adding a wireless card to your pc will work. Adding a wireless card or even a wireless USB adapter will give your desktop wireless capabilities and it will free up that lan port which you can then bridge. The choice is yours really. You can get a switch or wireless usb/card at Best Buy and if you don't have one there then most computer places have them, even wal-mart lol Hope the information helps you out. Thats a freaking Bargain, works out about £17 for Wifi N standard on a 360! Pitty they are not in the UK
I have never added anything to a PC before but the wireless card seems like it would be simple enough to install. So is that a wireless card you would recommend? 54Mbps is fast enough? Also the card would come with any software needed for installation? Ok so assuming I have a wireless card installed can someone explain the exact procedure to bridge the two devices? Modem to Router(Wired) Wireless Connection From Router to Wireless Connection in PC PC Ethernet Port to Xbox Ethernet Port(Wired) Is this right? So I would be using the wireless connection to access the internet this way? Just saying if I hooked everything up this way and then for whatever reason I wanted to get online before I bridged the devices I would have to use the wireless connection right?
Ok so basically you get the wireless card and hook it up. Then plug the 360 into the pc LAN port. Then you can just watch that video again and it will show you exactly how to bridge the connections. After the connection is set up you never have to do it again. I would think you would want a faster connection as well. It also depends on what your router can do. But that's the basics of it. I'm at work right now and posting this from my phone so it's hard to look things up.
