Okay, I have two xbox systems. One works fine, the other... not so much.

The problem with the second one is that the DVD drive is broke, along with that, the dashboard does not load either. In this case, the big green X appears, along with the green text of "xbox", with "Microsoft" written underneath it.

...And that's all. It hangs at that point.

What I want to know is there any way to restore the second xbox back to its softmodded state, even with a disk drive, which doesn't read anything? Would I be able to connect anything to my working xbox to try and get the broken one up-and-running? Or will I have to do a hotswap, using my PC?

I mainly just want the second system up and running so that I can FTP into it, use it as an xbmc networking media center. The disk drive, I have no need for.

    What can I do?

    Thanks, in advance.

Have you tried softmodding the Action Replay way ?

Sometimes a broken dvd drive, especially a philips one, will cause the system to hang at the green X.. try swapping the dvd drive first and see if it will boot. While you have it apart you can also invoke the error12 by leaving the dvd drive unplugged which makes hotswapping way easier.

Like creaky says.. the easiest way to mod the working one is the softmod method.

Yeah, the working one is already softmodded via action replay. I was wondering if there's anything I could do for the second xbox, which hangs at the green x, and has a broken disk drive.

I haven't yet swapped out disk drives in the second one, which I'll probably try later. Does it matter what kind of drive to put back in the second one, or...?

No, I don't think it matters.
