I have 2, 2gb nano's and 1 30gb video. Problem is, 1 nano has a broken screen, the other one is for a mac, and the 30gb has had a HD death... Why do I-pods hate me and how can I fix these problem? (Can I reformat to windows or something of the sort WHILE keeping the music, and how much will the HD and screen cost me?

You first HUGE mistake is putting any music on an ipod without having an extra copy.

If you format it you will erase your data. That is what a format does.

    1) Try plugging you ipod into a PC.
    2) Open File Explorer.
    3) Under tools go to folder options
    4) Make sure you can view hidden directories
    5) Open your ipod as if it was a disk
    6) You should see the hidden folder called control (I think that is the name)
    7) Just double check one of the wierdly named folders (Like AAAA).
    8. Make sure it has a bunch of wierdly named m4a files. Those are your music.
    9) Copy the control folder to your hard disk.

Itunes and ipods do not use the file names for anything so they will look like normal in itunes or on your new ipod.

You are better off buying a new one. Other wise you will spend 60% of what a new one lists for and it is still old. You can probably buy on on the internet for about the cost of fixing the old one. If you do spend a little money and put it in an expensive leather case, They will like you because if you drop them they will not break. My 2 year old nano looks like new because the only time it come out of the case is to sync with the computer. The broken screen is from a drop and a drop will break the HD. Maybe it is you that don't like your ipods.

The HD broke by moving up and down. The Nano's screen broke by it being in my profile. Most of the music is ones I've "select-drag" ed over to my ipod from other comps.
