Ran into problem with Brothers Grimm. I'm running the latest AnyDVD.
DVDecrypter cannot open the disc. Tried many times and log stops at devices found. The title of the dvd does come up and it creates the destination folder but the files do not appear and Decrypter closes itself after a minute or so. So I tried Shrink. Something about this disc slows shrink waaaay down. Around four minutes to analyze and 2 hours to encode but eventually errors with the "Out of Memory Not Enough Storage is Available to Process the Command" message. Also when poking around the files to see what I want to get rid of or play in the preview window Shrink was not responding correctly, I'd get the little hourglass "wait" when moving from main movie to extra features, etc.
Finally gave up and tried another dvd to make sure everything was working ok and had no problems.
Went back to Brothers Grimm to try again. Decrypter still would not open the disc. Tried Shrink again and this time it started to encode at normal speed(45-50min) but still errored with the "Out of Memory" message. Out of curiosity I looked to see how large the file in the Shrink folder was, 49.2MB. Don't know if that's normal or not but the drive has 50.5GB of free space.
Tried every combination of AnyDvd, Decrypter and Shrink. No luck. Suggestions?

Did you try CloneDVD2 with anydvd?

    How about DVDFab decrypter?

    or...

I just did this movie with AnyDVD and Nero Recode2 which is almost the same as DVD Shrink. Try using shrink if you don't have Recode2.

The question begs to be asked...How much ram do you have in your system?

512 Memory. It's just something about this disc. Just having it open in the drive takes up all available memory. Take it out and everything is back to normal. Went ahead and tried several other discs and everything works fine. While Shrink is encoding any other disc I minimized Shrink and opened and ran other programs with no problem. I cruised the Internet with McAfee running a virus scan and Shrink running with no slow down. With The Brothers Grimm in the drive it took a couple minutes for the Shrink window to minimize after clicking on minimize and no other programs would respond. Also took the Shrink window a few minutes to come back up after clicking on restore.

Just having the disc in the drive is not doing it. Playing it with WMP does not suck up all the memory. It's opening the disc with Shrink or Decrypter that sucks up all the memory so that's there is not enough memory for either program to run.

Brothers Grimm was EASY with CloneDVD 2 & AnyDVD
(Latest version). Also backed it up with Nero Recode & AnyDVD.
    Easy one.
Try CloneDVD 2 & AnyDVD and back-up main movie only. Take out the audio languages you don't need to get the compression to at least 60% or higher. This is a 2 hour movie, so it's pretty big.
But easy to make the back-up with this method.

Use the task manager to see what all you have running at any given time. You'll be suprised.

It almost sounds like your DVD reader doesn't like the disk and has a hard time reading it.

I agree with ScubaBud, it does sound like a drive problem...

    @rw2516,
Yes, it may be as simple as updating your reader firmware to better support reading DVD-9 discs. Or, maybe you need a new reader. Me, I would try a firmware update first. The method I used worked very well with Perfect results & went quickly & was easy too. Try CloneDVD 2 & AnyDVD. Maybe it will do fine! You have the latest AnyDVD, try the FREE 21 day trial of CloneDVD 2. What do you have to lose?

I used AnyDVD ( newest version ) along with DVD Shrink and it ran like a champ. Played the whole movie on an Xbox and it is running on a Phillips DVD player now.

There is a help file on how to do it if this does not work. Dated 12-20 I believe.

    Hope this helps.

It's just possible my drive doesn't like this disc. ALL other discs work fine. Also works fine with computer media players. Both drives(HL-DT-ST DVD-ROM GDR8162B and PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-107D). For whatever reason, opening this disc with Shrink or Decrypter(in either drive)(AnyDVD on or off) causes the CPU(Pentium 4) to lock up immediately in either drive. It's like there is something at the [bold]very[bold] beginning of the disc that the computer is working so hard to get around that it locks up and both Shrink and Decrypter quit responding. Is there something at the very beginning of this disc? I'm going to give DVD Clone a shot tomorrow. If that doesn't work I'll quit worrying about it. Just one movie. Haven't had a problem with other new releases. Haven't ruled out that it may be an actual error on this disc not related to any type of protection.

I would first try another disk, maybe from a friend that has the same movie or rent one just to see if it will work for you. I bet that will correct the problem. In other words, its probably a bad stamping of an original disk.

    Good luck

Well, downloaded trial of CloneDVD and it worked. Still curious about why the other programs were acting the way they were.

I had the same problem with shrink (with Anydvd running) on this DVD. Got the out of memory error. Then I just did a copy/paste of the video_ts folder to my HD with Anydvd running and I got it no problem. After that shrink worked fine on the ripped files. I noticed this happens on discs with ripgaurd.

This movie is easily backed up with the latest AnyDVD & CloneDVD 2 or Nero Recode.
