Hi all, Newbie here! My computer has recently acquired a browser hijacker and I just can't seem to get rid of it. I have used Spyware blaster, Ad-aware, Spybot and also ran AVG scans who inform me that I have a Trojan virus but it just won't seem to go away. I have downloaded hi-jack this as instructed in the sticky thread, please can someone help me, this is driving me nuts! Also, can advice be given in plain non-techy type terms as I really don't want to mess anything up! Thanks in advance. Hi zootie, Probaly Rav is busy so I'll help you. Download SmitfraudFix.zip to your desktop -> http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.zip Unzip it (folder named SmitFraudFix) to your desktop: Boot your computer to SAFEMODE. Open the folder SmitfraudFix and doubleclick smitfraudfix.cmd Choose option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and pressing "Enter" in order to remove the infected files. You are asked: "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove your desktop wallpaper and the infected registry keys. The tool checks if wininet.dll file is infected. You might be asked to replace the infected .dll (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter". The tool might have to restart your computer; if it won't do it, restart your computer back to normal mode. A textfile will appear after the cleaning process, copy this file and paste it to here. Tha log is saved to your local diskdrive, usually C:\rapport.txt.
Thankyou for your help, here is the rapport text file. I just wanted to say thank you again, you have been a great help! Do you have any recommendations for the firewall?
Important Notice: Effective November 30th, 2005 all Sygate consumer firewall products will be discontinued. For technical assistance with these products, please email SMBSupport@Symantec.com. In addition, the consumer firewall support forum will be available for 60 days per our standard support policy. Note: this end of life only applies to the consumer firewall products and does not affect Sygate's Enterprise firewall and endpoint compliance products, which are still be updated and supported. Thank you and we look forward to assisting you with the wonderful line of Symantec products. Please click here for Symantec Support. So does this mean that Sygate is not available anymore for free?
Probaply my choice be different firewall. Symantec buy Sygate's firewall. I believe that in future sygate won't be free. Try another, Kerio, Zone Alarm or Outpost Here are some links, http://www.iopus.com/guides/free-firewall.htm http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/company/products/znalm/freeDownload.jsp http://www.download.com/Firewalls/3150-10435_4-0.html
