Hi all. A couple of days ago a red circle with a white cross in it appeared on my task bar beside clock, etc. It stated there was an infection and to click to download spyware protection or some thing like that. Obviously I didn't but I found ALL my spyware and anti virus unable to update, ( I use AVG anti spyware and anti virus, Adaware and Spybot). I had to boot into safe mode to get them to update and to run scans. This appeared to solve the problem, it removed the icon but when I went to use trend on-line scan I noticed that any attempt to access anti virus/spyware sites were being blocked or redirected. I tried all the scans again in normal mode but they are coming back clear!!

I found a 'Spyware Hunter' thing on-line from wikisecurity and downloaded it, it says I have zlob infection but wants me to register to clean my system, I probably shouldn't have downloaded it!

I have included a HJT log. Can some one please point out what I should be looking for and what I can do about it? Please help as this is driving me nuts!!!

    Hi raffs

    Let's try more powerful scanners.

Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and install it. Follow the prompts and reboot if required.

Launch Malwarebytes either by running C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe or double-click the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware shortcut on your Desktop.

    Configuring Malwarebytes

    • Click on the tab Settings.
    • Make sure only these boxes are checked:
    Code:
    Terminate Internet Explorer
Automatically save and display logfile after removal
    Always scan memory objects
    Always scan registry objects
    Always scan filesystem
Always scan extra and heuristics objects
    Updating Malwarebytes

    • Click on the tab Update.
    • Press the button Check for Updates
    • Wait for Malwarebytes to be fully updated.

    Scanning Time

    • Click on the tab Scanner.
    • Check Perform full scan and click on Scan
    • Wait for the scan to complete, and then click on Show Results.
    • Make sure all items are checked, then click on Remove Selected.
**If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts. Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If you are asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

    Post A Log

    • A text box will pop up after the removal process is over. Post the contents of the text here.
    • If no text box pops up, launch Malwarebytes, and click on the tab Logs.
    • The logs will appear as mbam-log-*date-*time.txt. Select the latest one, and then click on Open.
    Post the log here.

    Best Regards :D

    Hey raffs

Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer into Safe Mode by doing the following:
    • Restart your computer
    • After pressing the power button, repeatedly tap the F8 key.
    • Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
    • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
    • Choose the administrator's account.

    • Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
    • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
    • It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
    • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
    • When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
    • Once the desktop icons load, the SDFix report will open on screen and will also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum)
    • Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt here.

    Best Regards :D

    Hey raffs

If your house needs renovation, I recommend banging your head on the wall :)

If not, please post a new HijackThis log and tell me what problems you have left.

    Cheers :D

    Hey raffs

    1.
    Now, please download ComboFix.
With ComboFix, at the download window, please rename it to Combo-Fix(.exe) before downloading it.

Please disable all security programs, such as antiviruses, antispywares, and firewalls.
    Also disable your internet connection.

Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the code box below into it:

    Code:
    File::
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\karna.dat
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\brastk.exe
    • Save this as CFScript.txt in the same folder as ComboFix.
    • Then drag the CFScript.txt into Combo-Fix.exe.
    • This will start ComboFix again. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the ComboFix log here. The log will be located at C:\ComboFix(.txt).

Do not click on the ComoboFix window, as it may cause it to stall.

    2.
    Please run HijackThis.

    • Click on the button which says Main Menu, then Do a system scan only.
    • Please wait for the scan to be completed.
    • After the scan has completed, check the following entries.

    Code:
    O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-18\..\Run: [brastk] C:\WINDOWS\system32\brastk.exe (User 'SYSTEM')
Click on the button Fix checked

NOTE:: Close all browsers before fixing anything.

    Any more problems?

    Best Regards :D

Hi. I have tried the Combofix thing, (as you directed), but when I drag the txt file on to it it asks me if I want to run combofix. I answer yes and after a bit I get an error message:

    Cannot rename ComboFix as

Please use another name, preferably made up of alphanumeric characters

There is no report generated either. What am I doing wrong? Thanks again for taking all this time out to help.

    Hey raffs

Did you rename Combofix at the download window? Or after you finished downloading it?

This time, delete your copy of Combofix and download another one, without renaming it, then follow my instructions.

    Best Regards :D

    I actually did both

firstly because the download was automatic and secondly as I changed the way Firefox chooses to download things. I got the same result both times!

Ahhh... so that's the problem, as Combofix cannot be renamed after it is downloaded.

Download it again, but do not rename it at all.

Hi. Got it to run but I didn't get:

    O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-18\..\Run: [brastk] C:\WINDOWS\system32\brastk.exe (User 'SYSTEM')

with the HJT scan. However all seems to be good again, so thank you very much. I really appreciate the time taken to help, thank you.
