Bsod when I try and install xp on vmware

So I know this OS works fine, as I've had it on my computer before. But when I install it on vmware, after the install it boots the OS only to bring me to the blue screen that tells me driver iqrl not lesser or greater or something to that effect. I've searched around and figured it has to do with a driver problem and in most cases there is a .sys file labeled on the screen, but in my case, I've got no .sys file given. Any ideas?
