read the small print, there are variuos things they can do,the worst is to cut you off and make you pay up your contract, lucky for me i have only couple of payments to make, then they can do what they like
if you are under contract, they wont let you leave without paying them up,and they wont give you a MAC code either

UK Online Broadband 8000, i think I'll have to go with them, but i'll have to wait until feb! I think I'll have to pause all my Downloads LOL.

A good thing about waiting is that UK online will bring the price of their 8mb Broadband down.

holy shit 8mb. THye only got 1.5mbs where im at. WE cant get cable yet. any way im having troble getting my inter net working to its full capasity. Can someone please tell me what are the safest, best ports to use, how to set them up to bitlord, ares and opera. i would apreciate it. thanks

    [edit]

Its preferable that i dont do anything through my router (probably not possible) because i dont know the password and it will take my dad ages to getting around to do it

Hey J-Kwon you were right about port 65535. I saw my download go from 120kb up to 435kb when i restarted the router. It's now between 350kb and 400kb on 49 seeds and 3 peers.

I finally located my long lost ancient email, no sign of any complaints yet, just a sh!t load of **spam** took me about an hour to delete it all
    [IMG]
Also Hursty it didn't say anything on my statement which is good news.

    Ports for Bitlord -
I use 65535, To use that port go to Options > Prefrences > Then type in 65535 in the listening port. Then set your global max upload rate to 20KB/s rather than No Limit. You have to configure your router to open the ports go onto your routers site (192.168....) I have a list off all of them above. Then go to http://www.portforward.com, And choose the default guide for your router
    [IMG]

    Ports for Ares-
I would reccomend changing to IM-L Peanuts that connects to 4 different networks,Every network used by Peanuts requires different ports to be
forwarded. The interface port 1213 should not be forwarded.

    The network specific ports are:

OpenFT: Forward TCP ports 1215 and 1216.

    Gnutella: Forward TCP port 6346.

Ares: Forward TCP port 59049.(If just keeping Ares forward that port)

FastTrack: Forward TCP 1214 and UDP 1214

    Ports for Opera-
Change to Firefox it's so much better!

Also Password thing, When signing in its usually 'admin' in the admin box and 'password' in the password box. or try both boxes with Admin in

    Hope that helped :p

I'm on the 8mb bulldog with no caps. Luckily for me i am sat right on top of the exchange so i get the best speeds. I was on 1mb for the last couple of years and would max out at 115kb. This 8mb is a killer. Have you read about the 10mb lines next year and 50mb by 2007?

Also when downloading Torrents you need to be careful, so I'll post a list of good Spyware/Adware Removers out there the majority of files are geuine but some are Viruses, Trogans, Keylogging Tools.....etc

I'll begin with one of the best, Ad-Aware SE Personal, it's a very nice tool
    Description at http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/
    Download at http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE...045910.html?part=dl-ad-aware&subj=dl&tag=top5

Next is my favourite Spybot S&D, IMO it's the [bold]best[/bold] and it's free!
    Description at http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html
    Download at http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html

Microsoft Windows Antispyware (Beta version) this will help protect your comp from spyware
    Description at http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx
    Download at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...A2-6A57-4C57-A8BD-DBF62EDA9671&displaylang=en
(You must have a genuine copy of Windows to get this)

Another good one is SpywareBlaster v3.4, It's freeware!!
    Description at http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
    Download at http://www.download.com/SpywareBlaster/3000-8022-10196637.html?part=dl-SpywareBl&subj=dl&tag=button

Webroot offers a good range, In particular SpySweeper although it costs theres a free trial
    Description/Download http://www.webroot.com/consumer/downloads/?WRSID=0bedb3f5d72f38625ef19c01cd8f6cfa

Anotherone I found is Spyware Doctorâ„¢ 3.2, seems to be ok(an award winning spyware remover)
    Description at http://www.pctools.com/spyware-doctor/
    Download at http://www.pctools.com/spyware-doctor/download/

eTrust PestPatrol is another great tool, it's one of the best I've found
    Description/Download free trial at http://store.ca.com/v2.0-img/operations/ca/site/pestpatrol/pp4.htm

*****[bold]Trend Micro Free online virus scan[/bold]*****
    http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
Also on the trend micro note try their free trial
    Download at http://uk.trendmicro-europe.com/enterprise/downloads/choose-reason-for.php?id=172

Last one now BPS AntiSpyware remover, heard good things about it
    Description at http://antispyware.bulletproofsoft.com/
    Download at http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/Popup-Ad-Spyware-Blockers/BPS-Spyware-and-Adware-Remover.shtml

Most of the above are free trials but some are freeware, if any new ones become available I'll add them :p

Antispyware software is very important as some people upload fake torrents which are essentially viruses =P

Also When opening ports and you need to know if they were open,

So run a few tests ..............

    1) go to Shields Up!!
    http://grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2

    2)Then click proceed [IMG]

    3)[IMG]

    4)Hopefully you will see this

    and this

Next you could run a NAT check http://btfaq.com/natcheck.pl
Type in your port number 65535 in my case
And hash of the torrent you [bold]need[/bold] that, you can get it from the torrent site you get it from e.g go back to place you got the link from.

Hopefully you will get pass! If everthing is as i have told you have forwarded your ports correctly

animeluva if you have 1mb Broadband your max is likely to be about 120KB/s, You need to ensure that you open up the right ports http://www.portforward.com has most of the answers. After you think you have opened the right port, look at my last post that will tell you if it's open.

    What router do you have??

Try getting torrents of http://www.bitsoup.org or http://filelist.org, better chance of you getting your max if you use.

More info on the torrents your trying to download, no. of seeds, no. of peers,

Also what do you upload at? set your max to 20KB/s

mmmmm read through whole thread that will give you a few more ideas i think it's just a case of you opening your ports up, :D

AVG Trial Versions (prof single vers) - Download at http://www.grisoft.com/doc/38/lng/us/tpl/tpl01

Panda antivirus - Description at http://www.pandasoftware.com/
    Download at http://enterprises.pandasoftware.com/download/

McAfee im not a huge fan of theirs but their products do the job - No download from here you have to purchase it from another internet shop or somewhere like PC world
    Description at http://us.mcafee.com/root/package.asp?pkgid=144&cid=12155

not sure on that one,i have not heard of the following this through yet
think it will follow a few warnings, which are circular

end of the day, whats the worst that can happen.....they can cut you off, which is no big deal
i would just go on dial up for a couple of weeks, whilst waiting for uk-online

and would like to see if wanadoo would take me to court for not paying the contract up

    hehe
