I am wanting to build a new PC. I currently have an AMD 1800 and would like to upgrade to an AMD 64 4000 939 (San Diego) chip. I would also like a mother board that will allow me to setup 4 hard drives. I was looking at the ASUS A8N-SLI Premium Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI ATX AMD Motherboard. Is there any other motherboards that support faster memory? This board uses PC3200 memory Any suggestions on what to build?
DDR400 is extremely common. It's easy to find DDR2 memory, but a much more difficult task to find supporting MOBO's. The Abit K8N Ultra Socket 939 @ http://www.directron.com/kn8u991145.html But later on, that same page says I also checked it out on a different page and it didn't say anything about ddr2.... So I don't know... I'll keep looking. *I found some pentium 4 boards... But P4's suck anyway.. Faster memory memory wouldn't be worth lowering your standards.
i just built a new computer and this is what i have. mob is an asus a8n-sli-deluxe, socket 939. cpu is amd 939 - athx2-4200bv dual core. memory is by patriot and i have 2 x 1gb dimm, pc3200 400mhz low latency. when i bought the mob the tech took the fan off the chip set and put a heat sink on explaining that the fan was notorius for stopping and frying the chip set. this rig runs great. just some info for you.
