Ok, I have done some looking on newegg.com and ibuypower.com

I am computer illiterate, but I have come to these conclusions.

The Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 series, out does most AMD.
The AMD 64 x2 6000+ is the closest that comes to it.

Crossfire Motherboards are for ATI Radeon Vid Cards
SLI Motherboards are for Nvidia Vid Cards.

I play games like WoW, Sims 2, nothing like crysis though.
I am working off 800 dollar budget. I also, like I said in previous post, have a hard drive and rom that I can re use if they are applicable.

The main things I need help with is this.

I saw a PNY 8800GT GeForce card that runs at the same specs as Nvidia's. What Motherboard would this run on? Crossfire or SLI?

On the ibuypower site, I saw alot of motherboard info and specs on the spec list that are alien to me. I dont know what all of it means.

Ok, overall, I am wondering, what would go best with what.
    AMD/Nvidia/SLI
    Intel/radeon/Crossfire

but what about the video cards BESIDES these brands?

*sigh* I am losing my mind trying to build my first gaming computer, smoeone help me please.

Uhh, I am giving you estimates. Look them up in different online retailers for more accurate pricing.

    Q6600 for the CPU(180)
    Ati 4850 for the GPU(165)
    GA-P45-DS3R(130) for motherboard
or GA-X48-DS4(200) if you want to ever run two cards

    RC-690(80-90), NZXT Tempest(110) for cases.

i was hoping to ask a printer question, and i didn't know where to post it.

if this needs to be moved ... i understand ... i am a newbie to posting although i've utilized the forum & information plenty.

anyhow i've put together a new yet slightly older computer. i'm running a pentium and all is well but my newer samsung printer won't work. all drivers seem to be installed fine. the computer shows that the printer is installed. checked printer with my laptop, no problem.
    i'm stuck.

if anyone has any suggestions out there, i'd appreciate it. cheers. sam ...

I am no expert, but is it a possibility that certain model computers wont work with certain printers? Or maybe IDE and SATA drives not working with certain printers?

Not sure man, but good luck.

Umm try making a new thread with Printer Problems or something in the title. Not a lot of people are going to check this thread. You will get more help that way.

hey nrf2005, don't worry. Building a desktop is overwhelming, you're not crazy alone =P I currently just ordered my first gaming rig -- costing ~$760. So I can pretty much reflect you some help off my build

What kind of hard-drive and ROM do you have? Their details would give a better idea if they're worthy to be re-used in the long run

They are both being yanked out of my HP a6203w Desktop. I know the basics, its a SATA 7200 and the rom is a sony lightscribe DVDRW/CDRW 22x ....pretty sure, but google my model and u can find oodles of links. Oh and if you dont mind, my email is *removed* if you want to keep in touch to exchange info.
