    Hi hatewar
Well the latest up date to Nero 6 'broke' that autoburn connection w/ Shrink. So step down a version to 6.6.0.18 for the autoburn.
Uninstall Nero (write down the serial) then uninstall and run the clean tool. Here's some links:
    Clean Tool:
    http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/enu/General_CleanTool.html
    Package 1
    http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/Nero-6.6.0.18_no_yt.exe

    Package 2 (recode & vision)
    http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/NVE-3.1.0.21_no_yt.exe

You have Nero's packet writing software - InCD - that can sometimes cause problems (not this TRF though).
If you're not using it then uninstall it too and run the clean tool for it.
    http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/enu/InCD_CleanTool.html

Oh and edit out your serial #'s - they begin w/ 1A. Don't need someone else getting them!

    Hi hatewar.

Edit out the serial numbers in your post that begin 1A... by clicking on the paper/pencil icon in the upper right of your post.

You'll need to uninstall Nero InCD with the InCD Clean Tool. InCD is a troublemaker.

    http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/eng/InCD_CleanTool.html

Nero 6.6.1.4 isn't a very stable version. I recommend going back to version 6.6.0.18. Run the Nero General Clean Tool before installing 6.6.0.18.

Your burner firmware need updating. I have a link to newest version 1.04 firmware for the UJ 840S. It should probably work for the UJ840D as well.

This burner is not a very good one. Every forum at every site that does tech support for burners is filled with complaints about this one. Laptop burners are more problematic than desktop burners to begin with, but this one is really tempermental.

Uninstall InCD as explained above and install Nero version 6.6.0.18 and see if that solves the problem. You might want to get some RW media to experiment with until the problem resolves.

You could also burn with DVD Decrypter out of DVD Shrink instead of Nero. After clicking the Backup! icon in DVD Shrink, select "Create Image File and Burn with DVD Decrypter". Of course DVD Decrypter needs to be installed first if it isn't already. There's a link to the program in my signature if you don't have it.

Wow - I have this same drive & firmware in my lappy. No problems yet w/ TY dvd's or Verb cd's (cmc believe it or not). I don't use my lappy for the majority of my dvd/cd backups - just a few a month - I didn't realize it was so tempermental.
I'll have too look into this to stop any problems - txs!

Ok - I did everything suggested and it seemed to work fine but now I've run into 2 more errors - it says Burn process failed at 4x (5,540 KB/s). It failed the first time at 12x so I tried again at 4x speed. Below is the text from the rest of the error. I'm using semi cheap DVD-Rs it's a brand called Imation is this maybe the problem ?

Yes, the disks you are using are manufactured by CMC Mag and are among the worst made. The good brands are Verbatim, Taiyo Tuden, and Made in Japan labeled Sony and Fuji disks.

I notice you changed burners to a Pioneer from the Matshita laptop drive. The newest firmware is version 1.41 at the site below.

I just noticed you're going to burn too close to the outer edge of the disk. In DVD Shrink go to the Edit Menu then Preferences.... Under the Target DVD size dropdown menu, select "Custom" and then enter 4350 into the MB box and click OK.

I don't know exactly what's causing the problem here but updating the firmware and getting some better media may help. Don't burn these disks any faster than 4X though.

Try what laddyboy suggests - hopefully that will take care of the problem.
Free up some memory too - 75% in this log is in use. No multi-tasking and shut down any unnecessary processes. Maybe something is hanging up this drive.
After those suggestions - if you still have a problem - try burning w/ decrypter (see laddyboy's post above)

Does this drive and usb cable work in another pc without any problems?
