Newbie here, just burned my first disk and went on to another. Shrink and Decrypted went fine, backup was good, Nero started fiddling while the burn went on, then an error message. This has happened 3x, and I can't figure out what's wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    widha,
Make sure that you have the latest firmware for your dvd writer.
Please edit out your serial numbers started with 1A20-0218..... before anyone steal it from you.
Can I know what kinds of dvd media are you using? TDK, Memorex, imation or any dvd disk made in taiwan are crap media. Discard these dvd media and get verbratim, Taiyo Yuden or maxell made in Japan if you want your dvd to burnt correctly.
Secondly, make sure that your source dvd media is in good condition ie. without any CRC error.

Firstly edit out your serial number - IA20-0218 etc - others can steal

You should not be attempting to burn at 16X - 4X recommended by most experienced members - faster speeds increase possiblity of errors.

From you log - you are attempting to burn to a disk that already has data on it.

Your DMA needs to be enabled

What brand of media are you using to burn to?

What are you system specs - RAM, Operating System etc.

Thanks much. I'm using a Verbatim DVD-R DataLifePlus 8x 4.7 gb disk, and it was brand new and empty when I started burning. Specs: Windows XP professional, 256k ram, Liteon 16x external drive, Nero 6, DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter being used.

How do I enable DMA? I've decreased to 6x, lowest I can go. I've got a lot of silver coasters now, this doesn't seem to want to work after my first success. :)

fix DMA via this - http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/FAQ.htm.

    - CDRALW2K.SYS is part of Roxio. try uninstalling Roxio as it tends to interfere with Nero. you may need to google search for 'Roxio Zapper' to fully remove Roxio

@kurbads - lol, that reply was by me, though that's not the case in this thread, these are just normal atapi drivers in this current thread. nice find though :)

    Creaky,

Thanks so much for your help. DMA is enabled, but I'm going to uninstall both primary and secondary, then restart. Also, the disks are brand new and right out of their wrappers, so I don't understand why they would be full already. Except that the error messages occur at the end of the burn, just as I'm expecting it to say "another success, way to go" or something like that.

If this doesn't work, I'm going to uninstall Nero and reinstall. I really fried my laptop's hard drive yesterday with all the playing around. Come to think of it, my first burn went perfectly, then I decided to play with different software while burning while surfing the net. Consequently, my hard drive overheated and shut off in the middle of a burn. I think that might have caused a wee bit of a problem. :)

Many thanx all, it was the transfer speed. I knocked that down to 6x, and am happily burning away.
