I searched the forums and couldn't find an answer to my problem. Most people suggested to update the firmware and use good media. I checked my firmware and it should be the latest, and I'm using Verbatim media. Any help would be apreciated.

Unless they have changed the code for Verbatim then they are not Verbatim discs.

Seems like your burner doesnt like these discs.

Nero is not the best prog to use with D/l discs.

Well I bought these disks retail from Bset Buy and it says Verbatim on the spindle with AZO recording layers. I'm a little pissed I spent extra money for these, because everyone say Verbatim is the best.

    This is from DVD identifier

I burnt 2 coasters with DVD decrypter (the book type wouldn't change) and never got a power calibration error. Then I tried nero and I got the error twice right at the end. So used img burn and it kept getting the power cal error before it would even start burning. I restarted my comp and it started to burn fine. Came back to my comp 3 hours later and it was at the end of the disk with a por cal error when it was trying to finalize it, but I clicked retry and it finished it. Finally a good burn that plays back! But I don't understand what's going on why am I getting these power cal errors.

    Thanks

Those are Verbatim DL disks BTW.

    I found this:

Looks like your DMA is turned off. Follow this guide to check & reset.

    (Hi Gwen!)

    This might do the trick.

Thought I should let you know what just happened to me, I had the same problem recently, the 'Power Calibration Error' coming up in Nero 7 every time I tried to burn.

I searched for an answer and found lots of advice, mostly to update to latest firmware and use quality media. Well my drive is on it's latest firmware and I've been using the same media for a while (over 300 successful burns) and this was the first time it had errored and it just would not go.

I run Windows XP Pro and remembered that I had recently gone through my list of applications running in the background and removed/disabled stuff that I didn't need so I checked to see what I had removed/disabled, among the list was the 'NMIndexingService' that can be found in Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services. I had disabled the service as according to a lot of sites it is not needed and can be safely disabled.

Anyway I enabled it again, started the service up and voila all is back to normal. Everything is burning fine again. I guess that service is needed. Thought this might help someone else if they've been disabling services.

I have now started experiencing a calibration error like all of the other threads before this one. I have the same media for over two years. I am using Sony DVD+R. I use DVD Shrink and then DVD Decrypter to burn the movie. I get a calibration error at the beginning of each disk burn attempt. It starts to work initially and then stops and cuts off with the error. I can not get a firmware answer as far as an update because there does not seem to be one. I have a Matshita UJ-845D. The only one I can find is Matshita UJ-846D. Not quite sure if that helps? I am using windows XP. At this point I believe that the drive may be going bad, but need answers as to how I can test it to know whether or not it is the drive or rather some update done to the computer. The only thing done differently is that I updated my Any DVD version. Not quite sure that is the problem as it should have nothing to do with burning after the disk is already ripped. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Also is there a way to clean the lens to see if that is the problem. I have a laptop and have a side mount disk with no tray.

Thanks in advance for any help.

    @curtiscd
I have a Matshita UJ-841S in my lappy and don't trust it for burning. It's tempremental on a good day. Firmware upgrades are almost non-existent and generally computer maker-specific. You can try uninstalling the IDE channels if they have dropped to the PIO mode to see if it helps.

I went and bought an external burner to use instead.

I have already checked the PIO mode and it is still in the DMA mode. A lot of the threads here have given me ideas in which to try and narrow the problem, but everything seems to be in order. I am leaning more towards the drive going bad since I have burned an immense amount of discs on it. I will try to get another drive. Any suggestions for an internal laptop burner that can replace the Matshita UJ-845D. I have an Acer 1090.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I was looking at a Lite-On internal before I went with an external. I've heard good things about the Samsungs also.
