I'm fairly new, so I'm not certain what your code errors mean, but I thought I'd drop you a line to let you know to edit your post as your serial number is listed at the top of each of your logs.

Some people have been reporting problems with this version of Nero. Revert back to the last working Nero version 7.0.1.4.b here:
    http://httpdl6.us.nero.com/software/nero7/Nero-7.0.1.4b_eng_no_yt.exe

There is a more recent version of firmware for your burner - JS04. You can download it here:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...746&lang=en&y=6&cc=us&softwareitem=dv-31700-1

Your burner doesn't like the disks you are using. The firmware upgrade may resolve this, or you might try a different brand media. Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden seem to be the prefered brands of DVD media by the experts here at AD.

Thanks for the reply. I'll try the firmware upgrade tonite. I've been using HP-DVD+RW disc on the same burner for a long time without any problems.

Also, I was using Nero 6.x when this issue related to burning started. I upgraded to Nero 7.0 thinking the upgrade would resolve it.

Just for curiousity - I installed another copy of Nero (with the same product key) on my newer laptop. Wondering if that made this difference. Or.. Could it be some driver related issues??

It still didn't work after firmware upgrade and previous version of Nero. This makes me think it has something to do with the device driver(s).

When I used HP DVD write software, the drive was recognized as a "CD-ROM" drive and this seems consistent with the error printed in the Nero log. I tried uninstalling the drive from the device manager and did a reboot. The non-working settings came back when the m/c was done rebooting. So, I'll have to remove the hardware, unload the driver and reconfigure it.

How is this consistent witht the Nero log? I'm not sure what you mean. Post the new log so we can look at it.

This is how Nero shows all DVD burners: under the heading of CDRom-Device-Map. Your DVD writer is drive D: and your CDRom is drive I: This does not mean that Nero is not recogizing your Optical drive as a DVD burner.

Post your log so me and others can try to determine what is going on. It may be as simple as trying a different kind of medium. I would hold off on removing and reconfiguring until you post your most recent burn log.

Looks like I may have bigger problems with the drive. Forget burning, the drive doesn't even recognize that there is a pre-recorded DVD in it :-(. At the end of last evening, the drive doesn't even open when I press the button. I even tried using a different play software other than Nero and it had the same problems (no disc in drive).

I even tried a previous restore point without anything miraculous coming out of it. Any suggestions before I rip it out and reload it?

Not sure how to fix a burner that won't open. May be time for a new one. Its worth a try to mess around with it, but if you have to buy a new one they aren't expensive. You can get a new one for under $50.

If anyone else out there has any other ideas, feel free to chime in as my limited knowledge is running out of solutions.
