This is my 1st time to these forums and also the first time for any burning issues with Nero 6. I have backed up about 50 dvds with several versions of DVDFab and also about a dozen DLs both with +R Verbatims. If anyone can help with this following log I will be eternally grateful. Hi Munch58 Welcome to aD Here's some suggestions: Update your firmware to 1.06. Here's a link: http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2157 This may help your drive recognize the Verb dual layer media. Right now all it's see is this - Media type: DVD+R9 Double Layer For the dual layer slow it down to 2.4x or 4x. Take Nero down a notch to 6.6.0.18. Uninstall it (write down the serial #), run the clean tool and install this version - 6.6.0.18. http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/enu/General_CleanTool.html Package 1 http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/Nero-6.6.0.18_no_yt.exe Package 2 (recode & vision) http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/NVE-3.1.0.21_no_yt.exe Try that and let us know how it goes.
Thank you for the welcome and help I did a firmware update to 1.06 after my 1st failure but before I posted here. I Googled my error code and saw several different forum suggestions to update firmware 1st. Update went perfectly. Version 1.06 still sees the media as Media type: DVD+R9 Double Layer. Oh well, I have the other error log too but it may not be any different from this one. I tried the DL burn again and got another "failure" and then a 3rd and 4th attempt with a different title as well. Some of the failed discs appear to have a seperation band in the burned area, almost like no data was put there. Kind of like the space between track on a vinyl album though not as wide. I always defrag and scan for adware at least 3 times a week, and also don't run any programs that aren't necessary. I have had zero coasters to date then 4 from the same Verbatim cakebox of 20. Weird? All of the failed burns occured at different times into the operation. Does this raise any more concerns/ideas from you? Also I may have inadvertantly chose 6x because that's the speed I use for single layer. Doh!!!
You could be running in a few bad ones in the Verbs - even the best ones can have some bad apples. Too bad they're dual layer - costly coasters. So the lower speed still failed? The separation band kinda sounds like the layer break area. Try imgburn (free) to burn these discs - better at dual layer imho. http://imgburn Looks like you are doing an iso - if not you'll need to use the build mode to burn. Sorry for the confusion Binky...haven't tried another DL @ 4X or 2.4X. Maybe tomorrow...Did a single layer copy to make sure it wasn't a dying/dead drive. You've been extremely helpful...great replies w/links too.
No worries The guide for imgburn applies for using the build mode and burning a dual layer dvd. Like if you want to burn video_ts folder or you just want to add a bunch of files. Almost drag & drop - more like point & click. Pretty easy and user friendly. I'd try the lower burn speed w/ ImgBurn to rule out Nero on the dual layer. Sucks no coasters than bam the most costly ones - dual layer - yikes need to fix that. Keep us posted

Uh no is right At least the software is ruled out. ImgBurn fails burning the 2nd layer. But the disc is recognized - (Disc ID: MKM-001-00) MKM is manufacturer of the Verbs. Good stuff. So not the answer I want to give but I'm leaning towards a bad batch of dual layer (returnable maybe?).
It copied the entire movie all the way to the end. Did it stumble at the layer break maybe? I only ff'd to the end to see if the credits were there. Disc goes the full 1:55:00 like the original. It's always something Addendum: I went into the disc a few minutes before the layerbreak and watched it past where the split should take place....not a hiccup. The file size was well over the 4.6 limit of SL and ImgBurn auto detected the need for DL media. If the movie was too big then I'm asuming that it wouldn't have fit w/o the 2nd layer(?) This is getting stranger every second. Perhaps the entire stack of 20 was bad but works at slow speeds somehow? Addendum Part 2: Just got off of the phone with Verbatim's tech support. I told him what I've posted here and read the error log values as well. He said it's the firmware from NEC, that although it's new it is still behind the new media coatings/dyes/speeds etc. Seems Verbatim releases new media faster than the writer makers can keep up. Anyway he also said that I could have some bad discs in an otherwise ok stack since sometimes discs are mixed on a spindle at the plant especially at the end of a shift. The disc manufacturing machine has 4 feed spindles and occasionally a worker my add to the spindle from a different load of blanks, thus it's possible to have media mixed in a cakebox. Verbatim is sending me a NEW cakebox of 20 +R DL under warranty so long as I return the 4 coasters to them for evaluation. He noted that he'll make sure the replacement media has been on the shelf for at least 9 months to ensure compatibility with my drive/firmware. Now that's customer service.
Wow - now that is customer service!! I was thinking may have been a firmware thing since 8x dl layer is new but since the last update was this month thought 2x. Now he really gave you the scoop - most companies would have glossed over their product but he even told you of some of their faults - damn. Good deal! I wonder if Verbatim will update you on their analysis of the coasters. If they do - post that to - good info to have. When you get the new ones - keep us posted! editted to add- almost forgot - from the log it failed at the end of the burn on the 2nd layer - you can tell by the sectors where it says failed.
The disc I backed up is in pretty tired shape....maybe the files were corrupted. I'm guessing at this point. I'll pass on the info I get from Verbatim (if any)as they may just dump returns into a pile and test w/o knowing who sent them back? They are however, sending me a return envelope when they ship so I can return the failed burns. More of that rare "good" customer service.
Maybe not - I've backed up some pretty scratched up ones w/o a hitch. If you can get them ripped chances are the burn failure is something else. I don't know they may tell you the problem since their cust. serv is so rarely good. Would be nice but hey if not at least you got a another 20 coming to ya!

Included was a FedEx return label so I can send back the 4 coasters I made. Still outstanding service...If I have anymore problems with the rest of that 20 stack I'll call them again. Can't hurt.
