I just bought a laptop running Vista. I have decrypted a dvd and tried to burn it using the installed burning software. Roxio. It prompted me there wasnt enough disk space. I am using memorex 120. The movie is obviosly larger with all the extras on the disk. Are there larger disk sizes? If there are where do I find them? I tried to burn it using dvd shrink and it prompted me in order to burn I needed to install Nero. What is the best version to get to be able to burn using dvd shrink? On my old pc I never had a problem burning movies longer than 120 when using dvd shrink. I just want to be able to burn movies again, can anyone help?
Dump Roxio and dump Memorex. Burn with ImgBurn using using either Verbatim, Tayio Yuden or Sony. Burn at half the rated burn speed of the disc. Don't go by the minutes on the disc. You go by the capacity of the disc. If the file is too large you can shrink it with DVD Shrink or DVD Rebuilder. If you want larger discs, you will need to buy Dual Layer (DL) discs which cost more. Verbatim DVD+R DL 2.4x (MKM-001-00 dye) made in Singapore are the only reliable DL discs.
dialysis is spot on as usual. In my opinion Roxio is nothing but a resource hog and worthless and while many people have used Nero in the past without issues, the later versions have not been so user friendly nor compatible with other programs (such as DVD Shrink). ImgBurn is free and comes highly recommended with heavy use by many users. Also as stated by dialysis1, media is one of the most important factors in having a high quality end product, you can't hardly go wrong with the media he suggested.
