I purchased a Samsung SH-S202N 20X DVD writer with Lightscribe, installed it no problems, and installed drivers from Lightscribe.com. I am using Nero 8 as my burning software, and also for my Lightscribe labeling, I am using Datasafe Lightscribe 16X (v1.2) DVD-R disks for all my burning. The problem I am having is: I can only burn one disk and one label then my pc locks its self solid if I try to burn a second label or disk, all I can hear is the DVD drive spinning and I cant stop it or open the door it locks solid. So I have to burn a disk and reboot, burn a label and reboot etc, etc. Has anyone else had any problems like this?? if so how do I fix it please?? Many thanks in advance
Well Sir these are my thoughts on the issue. 1. Burning a disk, and then burning a label can take a lot of RAM. So, if you do not have enough RAM to do two burns or if your RAM is low from other prgrams using it that could cause your problems. 2. You are sur all of your drivers are up to date? Cuz it might be a driver issue they fixed with an update. 3. Is having to restart your computer between burns really that much of a hastle? Like I know it may not be normal to have to do it. And I see how is could get annoying. But it doesn't seem to me like something tooo bad.
A couple of other things to check. Could be a virus, or trojan. Do a scan of your drives. Might be heat buildup. See if your pc is overheating. Try placing it near a fan, or you can get these laptop cooler things that seem to be a fan your laptop sits on. Driver conflicts as already stated. It sounds like the program takes over the drives, and is not going to give up the disc until its ready to release it. Just make sure its really finished before attempting another label. With my old lightscribe drives and software, sometimes it would look like it was finished, but the thing was still doing something for a few minutes.
Thank you all very much for your replys guys. I have a very high spec system with 2 gigs of ram, so I dont think that is an issue, and all my drivers are upto date, and I use Eset (Nod 32) for my virus checking so nothing gets though on that front. I will continue to keep rebooting if that is the case, as the guy said earlier its not to much trouble. Thanks again for all your help.
It sounds like the lightscribe software is hanging instead of exiting cleanly. Bring up task manager when everything seems to have frozen and make sure the process has actually exited. Task manager should still start even if a process has stalled.. if it refuses then you need to check for malware, specifically the win32 family.
