Can anyone tell me how to fix this problem? It doesn't happen on all DVDs so I can't figure out why I get this error. I'm using Verbatum DVD +R discs and I have tried burning at 4x. I just updated to the latest release of Nero...after a few failed burns. I'm totally stumped. Thanks in advance. Internal target failure E: PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-K14L That means that the drive's laser was not able to follow the grooves embedded in the blank DVD. You may need to clean the drive. Also your firmware looks a bit out of date, here's the newest OEM firmware from RPC1: http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1918 I don't see anything real obvious on the log. Your DMA is off on your ROM: CdRomPeripheral : Generic DVD-ROM 1.0 d347prt Port 2 ID 0 DMA: Off That 's not a problem for this issue but it may slow your rip speed down. Here's my guide to enable DMA: http://www.dvdplusvideo.com/dvdguide005.html PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-K14L : Queue again later Every Pioneer drive I've used has made dozens of these on my logs so I suppose that is a normal part of the burn. I'd try some -R media and at some point replace the burner.
In addition to what fasfrank had mentioned, you need to slow down to 4X when burning. Yes, 4X is the best and safest speeds -- I've burned nearly a thousand of those YUDEN000T02 and so far they're all flawless.
Will that seems to have done it. I took can of air and blew out the DVD Burner and now it is burning again. Thanks for the advice! Willhh3
Good for you! Saved by canned air.lol I thought I would write a bit about how I go over a burn log. Maybe it will help you if you have another problem or simply want to be more informed about the whole process. One thing about reading a Nero burn log is to always look at the first error. This is almost always the critical error. The subsequent errors are usually the result of the occurrence of the first error. Sort of a cascading effect. What I look for next is the point in time when the error occurred. If it occurs before data writing actually begins then many times this is something interfering with the process, or more often, a problem with Nero. At this point I like to scroll back to the top of the log and look for a few things. The first is for a current Nero version. Often a fresh install of a current version will solve the problem. Next, I look at the firmware version. To be honest I have not ever heard of slightly out of date firmware causing a problem. The same holds true with DMA/PIO modes. This may slow things down but should not cause a burn failure, IMHO. I don't know how well an 8X burn would perform in PIO, a 4X burn should work. I like to see how much free memory is available for the process. I like to see numbers like yours A little further down I look at the media brand and type, especially if the error is a "key medium error. All this stuff about Sense key Sense code is interesting. These are standard SCSI error codes that pretty much all software use. Once Nero detects one of these error codes it will display a corresponding plain text error message. A Google search for SCSI error codes will bring up some links to graphs of these codes. Next, I look at the disc capacity and how much data is to be written. Good media will burn to full capacity............... (I personally do not lower the file size in Shrink for example. The default size is 4464 MB. I set mine to 4484 MB. Less compression = better quality. When I first started posting here at Afterdawn, the media in the hot seat now occupied by Memorex CMC-MAG was Princo. Princo media had problems at the outer edge of the disc. The recommendation was to reduce the file size to avoid writing on the bad area. Somewhere over the past couple of years, this has turned into a general recommendation, and there seems to be a trend to recommend smaller and smaller file sizes. I think I've seen 4200 MB recommended. My recommendation is to use good media and use Shrink's default size of 4464 MB and be happy.) Back to the burn log... I like to see how long the burn took relative to the burn speed setting. A 4X setting should take about 14 minutes. If it is taking longer then the burner is slowing down in an attempt to increase the dwell time. I look at the existing drivers at the bottom of the log last. Some programs can interfere with Nero, especially Nero's own InCD. Later versions are supposed to be more compatible, but Nero now has InCD has a separate download so even Nero is reluctant to mix it with their own video software. I'm glad you fixed your problem and I hope this may help in figuring out how to read the Nero log, just in case you have another problem. Try saving a few logs so you can have a reference. BTW, Nero saves your burn logs in C:\Program files\Ahead\Nero\NeroHistory.log so you may have quite a few in there. Cheers, Frank
Thanks for all the help and advise. I'm printing your recommenadations for future reference! Best Wishes Willhh3
