I am using DVD Decrypter and then DVD shrink. I have burned successfully in the past. I am no receiving an error after it writes the "lead in" phase. I then get the whole error box with everything that went wrong. My bunrer is a Sony external. I am using Hp 8x DVD's. Like I said I ahve burned successfully in the past with the same things. If you need any more information let me know, Thanks Ryan

hi, there. i have used Decryptor and Shrink before and got the same problem. My problem was that after using the computer for a long time(months) the harddrive is fragmented therefore it could not supply enough data to the burner. I switched to nero and it burn fine. the nero burning engine is smarter than the burning engine that is included it Shrink. Your problem may not be same as mine. but i would recommend that u dump Shrink for 2 reasons:

    1. Shrink was meant for shrinking your movie down. burning was included for the sake of convience only.
    2. I know that shrink if free, but the quality is not worth it if u are collecting movies.

if u still wanted to use shrink then u should defragment your harddrive before burning again.

If I select one of those will the other DVD fit on one disk? I have pasted my log from my most recent try. Hope someone can help. Itd not to long Thanks.

    @Ardee -

    - EDIT OUT your serial number, it's probably been stolen by now

    - that's a little out of date now. update to latest, which is 6.6.0.16

    - your burner's firmware is 4 versions out of date

    - this question mark means one of 2 things, either your atapi drivers aren't loaded correctly, or your burner is external (which you've said it is). i notice down the bottom in the existing drivers section that there's no mention of ataip drivers, however when you reload the atapi drivers, this particular line should probably still have an question mark

    - sufficient total memory, but make sure to close down more programs prior to future burns

    - that's not too bad, but i suspect your target size hasn't been set in DVD Shrink. Set target size in Shrink's preferences to 4300MB, thus avoiding outer edge of discs and not sacrificing much space

    - a-ha - the worst most atrocious media money can buy. Buy DECENT media such as Verbatim datalifeplus

    - splat!

    - you're torturing that bad media with 8x. most people recommend 4x for movies

    - i'd not come across this driver before in a logfile, and found that it's fine (it just checks for updates). I've bookmarked this link for my own benefit, to help with any similar threads thats come along. plus the link is hysterical - http://www.cdrinfo.com/Forum/tm.asp?m=76702&mpage=1&key=

As i mentioned up further up the reply, this section should list your atapi drivers, so make sure they're loaded by following this - http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/FAQ.htm

Also for information, DVD Shrink cannot burn in its own right. It can use a third party software such as Nero to burn but does not have its own burning capacity.

So basically all the problem was, was not updating often enough. Thats easy enough to fix. I bought better quality DVD's and made sure to set my shrink to right Mb. I knew that Shrink didnt burn, it used Nero to burn. But anyways, Just wanted to say thank you for the help. Im going to try and burn again. Ryan

no worries, but make sure to provide latest section of log after the next burn. in fact you could just do a 'simulation burn' which'll go thru the motions with a blank disc but not write to the disc, and provide that section of log, whether the burn works or not. If nothing else we could check you've ditched the foul media :)

Alright I did all that you said(I Hope) I tried to burn with a Verb disc, but still got the same thing. So I read the post again and notice that you left me another post, so instead of wasting another good dvd, I used the bad one. Here is the log that i got, again with another Illegal Disc. Anything different on this one? Thanks Ryan

eeeeewwwwwwwwww! you used a CMC disc again :(

use one of those Verb's, do a simulation burn with it so as not to waste the disc and post the log for that

why don't u try to burn that dvd in your friends computer to verify the disc. try to burn any small file. if the disc is good then i think your drive is at the end of its life. cuz u said that u have burn over 100s of disc.

There is no way my burner is at its end. Its not even a month old. Even if it is at its end its under warranty :). But I dont think that to be the cause of this all. I ave only burned about 100 not 100's. But we will soon get this all figured out. Creaky did you notice anything unusual in the last log? besides my cheap media? :) I am at work until 10 tonight so I wont be able to simulate a good disc. But I will post in the morning. Let me know if you noticed anything new or unusual. Thanks Ryan

I tried in asense what you said about burning the disc at a friends house. However I took the whole burner to my friends house, used the Memorex dvd and burned without a problem. So whats the story here? Why does it burn on his computer and not mine? I defraged tried disk cleanup and all that junk, but i still got no love. So should i uninstall the burner and reload it? what are some troubleshooting things I can do? Ryan

@Ardee - that's the problem with crap media - it's inconsistent. other than that your logfile is fine. you nedd to try decent media (simulation burn) and post the log....

I am glad that u brought the burner and the media to your friend's house. By doing that we can rule out the drive or the media's fault.

so it must be your computer. but there are many things that can go wrong. u can use the same method (trial and error) to rule each 1out OR u do a clean reinstall of windows. I used to fix computers for a living and the experiece that i learned is if i cannot fix something in 30 minutes then i will do a reinstall with the quick format. Obviously, u have wasted a day or 2 on this issue and still its not working. If u decide to do a clean reinstall and still it dosn't work then offer to fix it for u provided that u live in Toronto, Ontario. :) if i can't fix it i will buy u a new computer!

ps. Memorex is not cheap media, they have been in bussiness for a long long time. i know that some cmc media is bad, but CMC will not dare to cheat Memorex.

Well here is the story. I first tried a better brand DVD, but I didnt get any luck, so like i said i brought it over to the friends house used the memorex and it worked. So i just took it home shut down norton and some other programs that were running in back, did disck sweep and clean up and burned with the higher grade media, worked perfect! Burned 4 dvds today, it went well. Thanks for everyones help. Ryan

Player19, I think your problem is same as Ardee, too many software installed therefore conflict.
Reading the log file tells u: 1. your drive brand
    2. your media brand
    3. your burning process started
    4. it failed.
nothing else that u and i don't already know.
So do the same thing as Ardee did, defrag your harddrive, shutdown all the background software and uninstall all the unecessary software. and then try again.
If all that doesn't work and u still don't have a clue then reinstall winxp. with a clean reinstallation there would be no conflict of anything. reinstallation is gaurante to work but it takes long time i know. :) good luck

Also make sure that your firmware and all your burning and decrypting software is up to date. On a reply that creaky left he leaves a link to the firmware site. All you need to do is find your make and model, then find the newest update and download it. Then run the file and it will update it automatically. It took me two days to figure out, but in the end it was just updating and making sure that I had decent media and not alot of junk on my computer. Good luck i know how you feel
