I got a Pioneer A09 (109) dvd/rw but cannot get it to burn dvd's faster than 4X. If I use a 8X disk, it will burn at 8X but my old Pioneer 108 drive used to burn at 12X all the time if I told it to.. What am I missing here?? I have downloaded the latest firmware (1.58) but nero still won't let me select a higher speed than 4X ? Please advise. Your help is most appreciated.
I wonder if your burner was lying to you. I have seen this before. There is always a difference between your optimal write speed (what you set it to be) and your actual write speed (what the burner is really spinning). It very well could be that while 12x was a possible selection, your old burner was just spinning the discs as fast as the media would allow, all the while not informing you that it was going 4x, 8x, etc. Also, are you burning DVDRW media?
What version is your Nero? The latest Nero 6 Ultra is 6.6.0.16 - if you don't have it, then upgrade to the last Nero 6. Why would you want to go more than 4X or 8X? The majority of experiences members here at Afterdawn would recommend to burn at 4X only. What kind of media are you using? If your burner has the current firmware, then may be it's a media issue.
i have that same pioneer drive, on GOOD quality media, it WILL burn 8x rated media @12x or @16x, but, WHY would you want to do that? speed should NOT be a factor when burning dvd video, the higher the speed..the higher the rate of errors also, the QUALITY of media you used will limit the speed on that pioneer drive, check my sig. for suggestions...and please keep ur burns down to 4x or 8x MAX~ i've burned @16x only to find errors and pixellation on my burns...keep it slow and steady~ docTY
I used to burn at 6X on 4X media with no coasters, cut the burn time down to about 6-7 minuted. The way it is now, takes about 11 minutes. I'm using Nero 6 Ultra.
