Hello forum, I'm new here, and I have had my LG drive for a long time now. I stick with Verbatim media, since I just feel safer with these. When I first got my drive, there were only 8x DVD+R media from Verbatim. I could burn these with 12x with no problems. Then there was 16x media from Verbatim, and my preferred DVD media dealer stopped having the 8x media, and I got 16x media ofcourse, these should be able to handle 12x better than the 8x media. But somehow the drive will not burn these new 16x media faster than with 8x. I have upgraded the firmware to A117 but that didn't help. So I'm fooling around at 8x and I'm tired of it. I would like to get the full potential out of my drive. I would suspect the 16x media to be newer than the A117 firmware, and then the firmware recognizes the media as 8x. What can I do to make my drive burn the 16x media at 12x? I'm using Nero Burning software. Regards, Futterama
Is this your LG drive? http://www.videohelp.com/dvdwriters.php?DVDnameid=414&Search=Search&list=2#comments You can check other peeps feedback on that drive in that link-even what media works out the best. A117 is the latest update for that model. The manufacturers of your drive may not recommend that model to burn the MCC-004 media over 8x. That firmware controls the writing strategy- speeds, increments, and quality of the burn. Can you try with another burn program like dvd decrypter or ImgBurn? I also burned those sweet MCC-003 verbs at 8x and 12x. Very good media. They, along with sony's +1x-8x tys,and the Maxell +8x hitachi's are all extinct in my realm. The 16x verbs were designed to be burned faster. Sorry I couldn't help you out much, but maybe another fellow AD member has that same drive and used MCC-004 media in it.
Yes, that is my drive. I could just open another burn program, they must have some sort of speed choice, so I can see if they think they can burn the media at 12x.
