i burned a copy of a movie i bought to back up.
i can only view it on my PC. the regular TV dvd player just says readinding or cant play.

i used a plextor PX-716A which supports double layer
    clone DVD vs. 3.5.9.0
    memorex dvd+r dl 8.5g

after reading some posts i think mabe i should have had a copyright decription program running to such as Any DVD.

if this is correct, can i take the DVD copies i made and copy them again running AnyDVD with clone DVD, and then be able to view them on my TV's dvd player?

Your pc plays it's own backup, which it should. Shouldn't be anything encryption wise that causes it not to be recognized in your stand alone.

Your plextor 714 has the ability to booktype.I don't know much about plextor, but it has the plextools utility you can download. This may allow you to booktype the plus format to dvd-rom,making your backups more compatable. You can booktype +r/+rw/and +r DL media to dvd rom.

Maybe some other plextor users can tell you how to booktype with that drive.

I don't know how clonedvd fairs with dl backups.
I use dvd decrypter in Mode ISO read to hard drive and Mode ISO write/locate mds files/and burn. It's an excellent DL backup program.

Dvd decrypter can also booktype for you for the plextor drive. Dvd decrypter is free. When you get to Mode ISO write, click on little folder on lower right side of screen-right of burn speed setting/click plextor tab/change for dvd +r DL/and new setting: dvd rom/change,OK. The current setting should say dvd-rom. Give that a shot.

Memorex dl media is of questionable quality. They use ritek and phillips for their plus format dl media. The ritek's should be decent, but the phillips may not be.Let us know the actual MID code.
