Burned media received from a subscription DVD rental company!, more than once

I think that they dont even bother to chek discs, cause the envelopes they come in look like they have been used a million times.

Just an update... EVERY title that I have received to date has been burned. I guess these guys are really cutting costs! LOL

How much do you know about licensing/royalties? I have been "googling" to try to find out as much about this as I can. I know the rental companies pay some sort of licensing to be able to mass produce rental copies. I am wondering if it specifically requires "stamping" of the discs. Moreover, I wonder if it requires the encryption to remain intact. The next ones I get, I am gonna check for encryption. It will be interesting to see if "burned" media is able to include and be reproduced with encryption because the circumvention of copy protection is what violates the DMCA (although I VERY seriously doubt it).

I know there's a distinction between purchasing a movie for retail vs. purchasing a movie for rental, but the multiple copies portion is eluding me right now. Anything ANYBODY can dig up in regards to making copies for rental will be appreciately. I have found TONS of info regrding the licensing portion (just GOOGLE "licensing a movie for rental," but nothing on making multiple copies for rental.

unfortunately, i have no knowledge about the actual LAWS or policies regarding the rental companies mass producing their dvds, i would think that it would be "unlawful" regardless of licensing/royalties to their appropriate studios in which they purchase the films from...

whether or not the original films have copy protection on them, by circumnavigating them (in this case they are probably doing just that) i would imagine that this does in fact break some sort of "law" set forth by the movie companies to begin with...whether or not this applies to these particular types of dvds, i do not know for certain~

wish i had some real commercial/movie lawyer friends to ask, but i don't...i hope you can get to the bottom of this as from a consumer standpoint, this seems just WRONG; i know you mentioned they were burned onto poor media (i'm assuming these copies are "movie only" or is it FULL disc w/ bad pixellation/picture quality)?? i myself own a Pioneer dvr-109 and i know you do as well, it's a great burner, however, their choice in burning programs leaves a LOT to be desired (i have used dvdcloner before in the past, i'm guessing they are using it in a mass duplicator machines with anywhere from 6-10 drives burning simultaneously to speed up production)

i wonder if the company in question has found a "loophole" of sorts and they are exploiting it legally to make these copies? i've searched a little bit on google myself just to see what i could uncover myself, but my research has led to a dead end

you know what? i personally would call my CC company and tell them i got counterfeit merchandise and have them reverse the charge... you were charged for an illegal copy of a movie, how is this different than 3 thugs in an 83 seville at the walmart parking lot at 1am with a sign that reads "new movies $5 each" ?

 

Hey guys, I was wondering if any of you can help me out here. I'm thinking about purchasing a duplicator. I saw one and this are the specs:

1. It's a 2 target(meaning two burning drives in addition to one reading drive)
2. The two burning drives are NEC3550A drives
3. The reading drive is an Asus DVD E616A 16x DVD ROM
4. It as an Acard DVD Copy Plus Duplicator Controller with 8MB SDRAM Buffer
5. Selectable burning speeds
6. DVD format cross-over
7. 80gb hard drive
8. 3 yrs labor and 1yr parts manufacturer warranty.

It costs $320 shipping included. Does this sound like a good deal to any of you, or should I look for something else? Any input would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

 

yeah looks pretty good but you relize you can only make copies of a dvds that you have already decryted ,so you will still need a PC to rip and burn with before you can use the duplicator .most towers (like mine ) have mulpity bays for drives and you can use nero to burn mulpity copies withy your pc ,you really dont need a duplicator

 

Yeah, I know, thanks. I use my computer quite alot and burning(at least the program I use), slows it down and makes it more tiresome to do other things at the same time. I only have 512mb ram(I know I should've got 1gb, but just couldn't afford it at the time.) That is one of the reasons why I would like to have a duplicator. Thanks for your input.

 

you could upgrade to 1 gig and run a dual-core CPU as i am that solves your problems with buying a duplicator
