Does anyone have any idea how long a burner last. I know it depends on how long you have had it etc...however when burning/using rescue(which seems like it thats hours)doesn't this put added strain on the system and reduce burner life?

    Hi,

As you've observed, the more you use it the faster it's going to wear out. Some of the better built units such as Pioneer and Plextor have been known to keep chugging right along after years of use.

Many people use hacked firmwares to unlock the read speed on their burners but I personally advise against it because it adds even more wear and tear on the drive cranking up to the higher speeds but it's their drive.

I usually recommend an inexpensive DVD ROM such as the Lite On 166S for all ripping chores :)
