I have had a dru-700a for just over a year now and up til now it worked perfectly. I recently reformatted my hard drive, but now my burner can only read 4.27 gigs worth of space on a blank dvd instead of what it read before which was 4.65 gigs worth of space. What could be the problem?
hi its an illusion ask anyone here what size files you can actually fit onto a dvdr5! there is the maths to it but maths isnt me! infact now you reformatted is closer to the truth!
Rotary is right..there is a math formula goes with this..1000 mb doesnt equal a 1gb. math wasnt one of my strong suits.
The reason for the "4,7 GB" stamp is because they use decimal 10-base notation - 1 GB = 1,000 KB = 1,000,000 bytes instead of the usual binary 2-base notation (like Windows use) - 1 GB = 1,024 KB = 1,048,576 bytes
@rotary. your right about the size.@Uberst.don't no why it read high before , but it's reading right now. to make it easy the manufactuers or whoever decided to count 1 mb as 1000= 4.7gig the real count is 1mb 1024= 4.38 gig on your disc. hope this helps...goddam it i'm going to have to learn to type faster. by the time i answer the post every one has already done it
Capacities of DVD: For reference, a CD-ROM holds about 650 megabytes, which is 0.64 gigabytes or 0.68 billion bytes. In the list below, SS/DS means single-sided/double-sided, SL/DL/ML means single-layer/dual-layer/mixed-layer (mixed means single layer on one side, dual layer on the other side), gig means gigabytes (2^30), BB means billions of bytes (10^9). See note about giga vs. billion in section 7.2. hi hehehe - i think we all got there in the end, but not sure where the original posster got his info, can you elaoborate abit we may be able to clarify it abit more as 4.27 gigs seems odd?
Hey Jim & Rotary Long time no see as well. I pop in here and there but hardly post anymore. Only when I can irritate someone... <G> Just kidding. Hope all is great with you guys as well.
ok for some reason it isn't showing 4.27 anymore....now it shows 4.379. This is weird i don't know how i was able to burn on the whole dvd before..
Uberst Have you tried different disks, some from way back and others more current to see if they all read the same?
