Hi all, first post....I have been buring DVDs okay but recently I have a problem....they no longer burn on Nero at 8 or 4 speed...I get a burn failed message....if i retry at 2x it works (takes forever) but the DVD only plays the first few chapters then freezes up....I reinstalled my OEM Nero today (can't seem to find the version anywhere on the disc)...my drive is a liteon ltd163...any ideas? BTW, I did cehck the FAQs....I swear...

    @ davedi,

    hello and welcome 2 AD,
it would be more helpful if u could post your nero log of the failed burn. u can find it in Program Files\Nero\Nero 7\Core, nero history text.

also just reading ur post it seems like u r not using qaulity media,
and might need a frimware update.

yes IMGburn is a good program, but only burns ISO image.

also u can check if u need a firmware update using DVD decrypter,
Tools/Drive/Check firmware update, last option on the bottom

when u find out what firmware u have go to this link and see if theres an update

there is a fw update for your dell, the thing I don't get is why it's listed as a CD-ROM, continuing.

use link in 300bowler's post to get it.(the fw update)

also try this to see if you can upgrade your version of Nero Your Nero is several versions behind, update to this version, both links
    http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/Nero-6.6.0.18_no_yt.exe

    Package 2
    http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/NVE-3.1.0.21_no_yt.exe

    see how this update goes.

being your drive is only one update behind, you should have no difficulty whatsoever. click on the GDHJ update and follow onscreen instruction.
Being a Dell, only causes proprietory drivers/firmware, no big deal, but still,, is a Dell. Sorry

Even so, if you have questions before you update, post, ask, the only stupid question is the one you don't ask! Plus you can get more info here on the fw of your liteon drive
http://codeguys.rpc1.org/patchers.html, a full kit of info on your fw here http://digi.rpc1.org/dell-163.php

the firmware update might help but there is other stuff too,

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------
Last possible write address on media: 2298495 (510:46.45, 4489MB)
Last address to be written: 2286175 (508:02.25, 4465MB)
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------
this is too close to the edge, try lowering your output file size in shrink, its in preferences.

this error is caused by poor quality media try using better media
Taiyo Yuden, Verbatims, sony(made in japan) Maxell(made in japan)

    edit
@ nero63, yes i dont get that either where it says the Liteon is a dvd-rom, weird!

    @ 300bowler

from what I've been able to find on that drive, it IS a DVD-ROM, not any kind of rw info on it.

    @ davidi

run your nero info tool and post the information so we can get a better idea of how/what is doing the burn. Also, need to free up some memory,(close background programs), to make it easier on your system

    Hi davedi
Just to add to Nero63 & 300bowler good advice:
This is actually your burner. The Liteon that came with the Dell is only a DVD-Rom and my guess is you added this drive?
It's a BTC/Emprex drive. The latest firmware version is A187.
    http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1913
You're quite a bit behind. The update should help your drive reoognize the media and use the correct write strategy for it.
Right now all you drive can see is the disc is a +R

Try the suggestions and let us know how it goes - good, bad or otherwise

    edit: add link :)
