Hello ... I'm wondering if anyone have had a similar problem to mine or know where I can find an answer. I've read the other threads and have not been able to find a similar topic. I'm not sure if this is the correct forum to ask. I'm a semi-novice, so my terms may not always be correct.

I've had much success using Shrink (to reauthor), DVD43 (in the background) and Nero(v7)(to burn) for quite some time with no problems - until now. I recently made a backup of a dvd. Everything went fine and everything worked. I started the process again with another dvd. This time, neither Shrink or Nero would recognize anything in either drives (Burner and CD-ROM).

After playing around, it appears that BOTH drives are shot. The CD-ROM can read data, but not movies (retail or backup). My burner can't read anything. Media Player won't recognize (ISO or retail) movies either, but it'll play mpeg movie.

My question .... Could Shrink cause hardware failure? I've never had this problem before. Are newer dvds embedded with special codes that could disable a system like this?
    Thanks

Can you restore your system to before the burner started to act up. BTW the cd-rom can not read a DVD. It's probably ok. There is nothing on the disc causing a problem as far as I know, Sony root kit, so I can't say 100%. What movie caused the snafu? If restored to before trouble and the problem persists then your burner is probably heading south. Shrink certainly didn't cause the problem.
