Anyone have any idea why after about 3 months my burner has decided to slow down to a 4x? It is a plextor 716A 16x. Burnt fine until about a week ago, now no matter what I set it at it always stop[s at 4x. Any Ideas? Also I have tried 3 different medias to see if that was the problem. All act the same.

    Thanks a lot
    Dave

Had same problem...Restart Computer or run checkdisk. If all else fails restore computer back to when it was working ok. I had the same problem and restored and it fixed it.

does it slow down even if you use different burning software?
If not, I'd try to uninstall and reinstall whatever software is giving you problems. If it does, I'd try to uninstall the burner and IDE channel in device manager, then reboot and let Windows (XP?) find it all again.

Are you running other programs while your burning? That might slow it down. Also, check if you drive/DVD-R is dirty. It might just be a bad Power Supply though. On my old EMonster the power supply went out every ohh....2 months or so. ($60 dollars every time!!! GRR!) So that might be the problem.
