I have a non encryped/protected DVD disk dual layer 8.5 mb that I would like to burn without compression or shrinking onto 2 normal single layer disks. What is the best way to do this. The quality of the video is important and a menu must also be preserved, to go to the differant sections of the video. For this reason I did not want to author or compress with DVDshrink. Any free software or should I use pay software.
You can try the trial version of AnyDVD and CloneDVD2 and there is guide available for splitting and retaining menus http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/clone1for1.html I have split with this program, and kept the menu on both disks.

I was just talking about the big names like nero and windvd copy. I don't really know the differance but if there is not one then that is what is important. Is it possible to keep the menu with dvdshrink on both disks James
No Shrink won't let you keep the menus. The process is actually quite envolved as far as what has to happen to the file structure on the DVD. Not to many programs compare well with Nero. It has at least a dozen seperate programs in the full version and most work very well.
I think I am going to try out clonedvd and hope that the dvd keeps the quality. Any other idea's James
Use free app ifo edit. Take care in order to split the original at the correct chapter if you want to fit both sequencies in each disk.
hi an easy way but you will get a little compression is to use dvd shrink then change extras etc to STILL IMAGE! and burn disc 1 then load again and make movie a STILL IMAGE then burn disc 2 i mean if you movie is over 4.36 gig it will have to be compressed! thats if you dont want to disc swap half way through the movie.. hate swapping!
I thought that the original question was not to compress at all the movie and preserve the extra features and the navigation functunality of the original one. This can be done either with a free application such as e.g.ifoedit or a commercial one such as e.g. dvd xcopy. I think that ifo edit is better 'cause (a) it's free, (b) doesn't insert the logo of the firm in the backup copies.
