I am having problems getting past the issue of the widescreen format many of my movies are in. some background:
Most of my movies are widescreen DIVX DVD rips obtained from Kazaa. I have successfully encoded one into mpeg-1 in two ways 1-Tmpgenc encoded the movie into 4:3 ratio and the movie was distorted by being changed from 16:9 to 4:3. 2-Tmpgenc left the movie widescreen with a resolution of 640x272. I tried burning this one, ignoring Nero's popup telling me it wasn't VCD compliant. It played in my DVD as widescreen, but the image was at the top, leaving half the bottom of the screen blank. I have no idea what to do about this. Help? Sorry if I'm ignorant, but I'm a newbie teaching myself about all this. Thanks!

In tmpgenc try going to other settings click on the advanced tab go to video arrange method and chose full screen (keep aspect ratio) that should work. I go back and forth with that one and center(keep aspect ratio).
