Hello, this is my first post on these boards, but ih ave searched through and through for my answer before posting. I dont know the site very well, and that could have been to why i havent found my answer.. So i decided to come to the pro's. Yes, i am a complete newb to burning dvd's, im not going to deny it. For some reason, My drive burns at very slow speeds.. I select 2x for the media to copy at, which seems safe enough for me. But when the burning process actually starts it goes back and forth between 0.3x and 0.6x.. No where even near 2x during the entire process! Sometimes it takes 3 hours to burn one DVD! I have a BENQ DVD-R-RW Drive, and Im using Memorex DVD-R 8x. Whats the problem here?

First thing to check is your IDE controller settings. They need to be in DMA mode to PIO. Go into your device manager and expand the IDE controllers. Click properties on both the primary and secondary and see if the transfer mode shows DMA. If it shows PIO then try to change it back to DMA. If they won't change, remove the IDE controllers from the list, reboot and let Windows reinstall them properly in DMA mode. Try that first and see if it helps.
